Obika was poor during his spell with us but may go on to better things. When you saw Vokes play, did you think he would end up at Burnley as one of their top scorers in a promotion winning team? Poyet had Paynter in his team and he was worse than Obika!

As for Jones, did he have some input in recommending Stephens who looks a good buy!

Easy to pick out one player that fails and use that to slate a coach however, at the end of the day, right or wrong, final say on tactics, team selection, substitutions etc was down to Garcia. If the manager wants a team to play a certain way then the coach has to coach that style.

NJ's problem is probably solely down to the gesture he made at the Withdean when playing for Yeovil and some people can't get over that!

I find myself in total agreement with you for a change, so I will make the most of it

Well seeing as we don't know how much of a part Nathan Jones had in either our style of play, or in our finishing within the play offs, how about we give him another chance and support him.

I get the feeling that even if we run away with the league this season, some of you would say it was all down to Hyypia, well by that reckoning none of last seasons criticisms can be aimed at Jones!

He has obviously got Blooms backing, and Hyypia's, so how about giving him yours?

So what if he took a lot of the press conferences last season?, maybe you didn't notice our previous head coach was about as entertaining when he did them as his team were on the pitch, oh and Oscar's lack of English meant it was common sense for Jones to take them.

Indeed

There are quite a few that go on to better things, there has to be as things would stagnate. MacLaren left QPR, Appleton left WBA off the top of my head.

Of course as you say those are the facts, but perhaps Bloom doesn't want to pay off his contract, perhaps he wanted Nathan to stay provide continuity, perhaps he thinks he's doing a good job. The fact is as you say he remains.

Leaving a club doesn't mean being poached. You said that clubs weren't banging down our doors to speak to him, so they are not good examples of your opinion.

A fine statto & thorough fella who's so particular with everything he does...

But don't worry I'll let some NSCers who've never met the guy or hear him speak about football in great depth keep judging him based in nothing whatsoever...!

Can we assume that our NEW manager is happy with the arrangements of working with Nathan Jones and stop the character assassination of our Welshman?

Guess work, I know, but I imagine the Finnish giant has met him and decided that they will work well together. The club don't owe Jones anything, so it is not as though they would demand to keep him whatever the weather and risk scuppering a management appointment.

I am certain he would be replaced if Hyppia decided he was not up to the job.

Can't we just accept that he plays an important role and not chastise him every other day?

Spot on BoF.

If that is true its no wander Bloom has kept him on, as I get the impression that Bloom lives and dies by his stats.

Can't see where I stated poached...... But the examples I have given are correct, Derby asked to speak to MacLaren, as did Portsouth or wherever Appleton ended up. If you wish me to put 'requesting permission to approach' ok, fair enough, but the point remains.... If he was that good, he would have had offers, and as per my initial point Tony Bloom does not seem the type to block someone's development.

A good point, but to be fair I liked Vokes and wanted us to sign him..... He has presence and I didn't felt he did too badly during his loan spell.

However, Paynter worse than Obika, I really don't think so. Obika was dreadful, no touch or presence whatsoever.

Nathan Jones is learning his trade. I am pleased we are showing the loyalty that I hoped we would. How he can be criticised for last year I have no idea. It seems asinine.

Some Albion fans love to have a scapegoat. Since Ashley Barnes went, it must be Nathan Jones who is at fault. At fault for what, I'm not sure.

Ok Sheebo, this may be fair enough, but are you able to elaborate a bit more on his input last year then, particularly from a statistical basis?

We actually employ statisticians in that precise role.

I'm intrigued.....

But its not about a scapegoat is it, its about a fresh start, letting people make their own judgement based on what is in front of them.

Do you think they'll bring in someone else as Asst. Manager?

Incidentally, selling Barnes remains a stupid move and we should have at the very least matched Burnley's contract offer, (assuming that the extra year was the main issue).

Apart from being Welsh, maybe.

My daughter lives in Wales and my granddaughter was born in Wales, so if you want to be sorted out, I'll see you behind the bike-sheds at lunchtime.

(Please don't force the issue, I'm an unashamed quivering coward, really.)

I have no idea if Sami will have an Asst. manager. Jonah has been called a first team coach now, which suggests that he might do. Either way, we'll see what happens but I don't think the last season's results or players were solely down to him. I'm one of the few who liked Obika and when he was given a chance ie, starting a game, he scored.

You see, as much as I'm not a fan of Nathan (you may have worked that one out), I do think it would be unfair to have someone above him, and have him relegated to an Oatway style role.

Don't get me going on Obika, I'm still reeling from his first touch against Doncaster when clean through on goal that sent him 20yards towards the corner flag....... :lolol:

How long is his contract? Is it not more likely that prospective managers were told that they would have to work with Jones if they took the job. So we don't have to pay him off?

Never understood the crap Jones gets on here and from a lot of Brighton fans. He was a decent player and didn't do too bad as a coach last season either. Still, never pass a chance to slag off a Welshman if you're short on imagination I guess.

Nothing to do with him bring Welsh. Carry on.

Absolutely. Very impressive student of the game, loves BHA and the city, and is a nice person. Personal relationships are very important in any management team, and I can see Nathan and Sami really hitting it off, which will spread to the dressing room. But then again, he's quite short and a bit weasel-looking, once got carried away playing for another team and hurt the feelings of some over-sensitive souls, and then failed to get us promoted in his first season as assistant. Obviously a complete tosser and waste of space then, Jones out!
