If Oscar were interested, I would be in the "Yes Please" camp.

I wonder if this is a "come and get me" from his agent. It seems clear from the article that money is not the main concern, or he would be after the big money North American Deal.

If Oscar did sign him, I think I would believe this would be one player Oscar truly knows all about before signing him.

Maybe a mad thought but he has played much of his career out wide on the left and cutting in onto his right foot. Oscar seems reluctant to start Lua Lua for matches, we have Orlandi out injured most of the time and we have brought in Rodriduez and Lingard on loan to solve that position, so perhaps adding it all up this story may have some legs.

why is anyone taking this Mirror article seriously?

Because it's written by Dave Kidd, who's not often wrong.

As for the wages, Cole won't be expecting a Premier League sized contract. He's a bright guy and will know what the club can and can't afford. He's not fast enough any longer to play wide in the Premier League, but IMHO he was never cut out to be a winger anyway. His football brain is still intact and IF he was played in his proper position in central midfield, then he could be a fantastic addition.

Central midfield is crying out for him. I think he would be absolute quality for us. If it were to happen I think he could prove to be a club legend in a short space of time, maybe over 2 seasons or even 1.

why not come on loan now for rest of season, see if he fits in ?

I'm guessing because West Ham would want us to pay a huge amount of his 90k wages, which just isn't going to happen. Plus he is still around the first team.

This could have legs just because it appears to be such a random rumour. I spoke to him in Discovery Cove in Orlando back in 2010, he was there with his family and he is a top bloke, very friendly and down to earth.

This would be an absolutely fantastic signing. He has the skills to fit in perfectly with Oscar's style. Yes please.

With a possible signing like this given his (and our) circumstances it is nothing to do with the ability of the player, and everything to do with his attitude.

If he sees it as a genuinely new and exciting challenge and maybe a great last chapter in his career, for which he is prepared to train like a demon, keep fit, and inspire younger and less decorated players, then great.

If he sees it as a payday with no pressure or spotlight and the chance to amble around a stone overweight for a couple of years and demand lots of special privileges from the manager, forget it.

It is the job of Garcia, Burke, Barber and Bloom to assess this from speaking to the player and what they can find out about his character, and they have to get it right.

This aspect is something Fergie was particularly good at while at Man Utd, getting the right sort of characters in.

Probably as gifted a footballer as Vicente and he didn't have to play every minute of every game to get us excited!

I'm going to have to disagree.

Joe Cole was never one of the top 20 players in World Football. He was possibly one of the top 50 in the Premiership for a couple of seasons, at a push. He's very skillful but his brain isn't all there and he doesn't have the pace.

If we're still in the Championship next year I'd be happy to see him replace Lopez (if he leaves). If we're in the Premiership we can do better, younger.

This would be like flushing money down the toilet he never plays and is well past it. No thanks let's concentrate on youth .

Maybe he will come on loan for the remainder of this season,to see how it might work out ,especially if Orlandi is not 100% fit.

His latests injury list shows hamstring problems but it seems that our staff have beaten Buckleys problems so why couldnt they do the same with Cole.

Hold your horses partner. Very presumptuous to suggest that Bucker's hamstrings are cured. Let's just hope they stay twang-free until season's end.

Moving Obika on may have freed up some cash, well enough to pay JC for 3 games at least.
