Good luck to you all. Maybe we can then have a more pleasant walk back to the coach park. Don't want to sound like a pompous prick but it drives me mad and makes me want to puke.

Do any of you smokers understand how unpleasant it is for other people in a crowd?, and does anyone actually care?. Genuine question I am interested.

Seriously I get the fact you have a right etc, and good luck to all that are trying to quit.

November 18th was my quitting day. Although I was obviously addicted to nicotine, my main problem was smoking joints from 7 in the morning til last thing at night for at least 15 years.
I would smoke ciggies when joints weren't possible (in the pub, with family, none available, on holidays) and surprisingly found the nicotine cravings the hardest part of stopping.
Someone has already mentioned the book 'Allen Carr's Easyway to stop smoking'. I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone wanting to quit.

Mrs V has just quit today and so far she has coped well, mind you she is franticly clearing out and re-sorting all the cans and sauces in the kitchen cupboards.

Quit on new years day. Have had two cigs since then. I think i am over the initial hump so to speak. Well atleast today i am not feeling the emotions of either breaking down in a nervous wreck or wanting to punch a wall until my knuckles turn to dust.
Im just finding going to sleep the most difficult thing. Earliest i can get to sleep is about 5am, just constant night sweats (thugh i think thats also stopping smoking weed aswell....not that i smoke it that much really anymore)

Day 6 for me. So far, has been much less stressful than I remembered from previous efforts.

If I can stay off them this time, I too can look forward to draining the health service budget with replacement hips, painkillers, anti-depressants, state pensions, weekly visits to the local GP surgery, chiropody, arthritis, dementia, incontinence and finally an expensive, yet poor quality state-funded Care Home so I can be abused by staff who are academically 'bright', but totally unsuited to actually care for their patients.

So much to look forward to.

But, most of all....I hope I stay off the ciggies and that eventually, a confirmed non-smoker will teach me how to look down on smokers with that 'oh, so superior arrogance' and the ability to look a smoker in the eye with far more contempt and disdain than they would an Al Qaeda terrorist.

Good luck to all future converts.

Day 43 now....and hanging in there quite comfortably.

Good luck to all.

Have you started dreaming more since cutting out your main problem?

Just gotta remember that the craving only lasts for about the amount of time it takes to smoke a ciggie. The NHS stop smoking clinics are quite helpful as well. One thing that has helped me up to this point is to remember that if I really want a smoke, there is nothing stopping me. Then I consider having one and realise that I don't want one after all.

Anyway, I'm dreaming about smoking about 20 fags and an 8th every night!

Are you starting to feel superior yet or is there still some way to go ?

Seriously though, I quit about 8 years ago thanks to the Allen Carr book, Mrs V and her family all smoke, the matriarch of the family has made it to 70 but is very doddery and can't walk too far, mostly because of her 60 a day habit. So this Chrismas due to circumstances I had to put up with all four of them smoking and there was no hiding place for me. I had already caught a cold a few days before and I was coughing and wheezing like crazy. It was like the old days of the pub when you couldn't see from one end to the other for blue smoke.

By the end of day 2 I was very uncomfortable, I could feel my lungs were starting to become very irritated and my cold accelerated my wheezing. Add to this the fact that all my clothes stank, even my rucksack that had been nearby. I was so glad to get out and get some fresh air and to get my clothes washed.

I'm so glad I was reminded of why I gave up and I will admit to feeling quite superior, but, I'm not super human and I struggled at times to quit yet I persevered and came through it. If I can do it anyone can.

Nearly done a week now and beginning to feel a slight benefit.
Cravings are definitely getting better. I am really determined this time!

Wow, that's a serious dope problem. I thought I used to smoke a lot but never at 7 in the morning. TBH, while I thought I was enjoying it at the time, I do rather wish I hadn't smoked all that dope, it f*cked up my head a lot over the years and although it has improved since I stopped about 15 years ago, I'll never be quite right. Don't miss it for a second.

My update.

Sinus issues virtually gone now, along with the panic attacks and off the anti depressants.
If I can do it guys after 53 years you can, keep it up, it is all worth while in the end.

My 2014 update

Still of them and that is 2 years now, that is my longest period off the fags since I was a teenager. Still have the occasional sinus issue but that's all.
Keep it up guys.

This is day number 6. Yesterday was the first day that i actually felt some remnance of 'normality' (i.e not a moody little git). But i can definetly feel the benefits already, my breathing feels much clearer for one. And best thing really ive probably saved around £30-40.
Though i dont know if this happened to anyone else, people say you gain more of an appetite when quitting, ive found the opposite, just not in the mood to eat at all. Is this normal?
