I'm jumping on the bandwagon now. It's going to be difficult as I have a fair amount of spare time (looking for work) before my job starts in September.

I do need to give up. I don't want to cause anymore irreversible damage.

Go to your GP and get champix tablets bof, streets ahead of patches/gum/ecigs, I cannot recommend them enough :)

I think you've just done the hardest bit (stopping).

Hang in there and give it time. Get something to replace the act of smoking.

The habit for me has been worse than the craving.

The e-cigs ment that i could still do something when i used to have a smoke. (without all the tar and whatever else they put in fags these days)

Did nothing for me, made me sick, gave me headaches, made me have awful nightmares. I am not a fan......oh and they did not work...for me anyway.

That's unlucky for you without a doubt, but the majority of people do find them successful. There's potential side effects with all medication, for example I can't take anti inflammatories but doesn't make them a bad medicine :)

Agreed. I know many that have found Champix successful.

You have now been added to my stay strong and best of luck list!

Do what ever works for you, just don't get despondent and give up. You CAN do it. One hour at a time, one day at a time. Then a week goes by, then you forget about giving up and your just an ex-smoker. I have every faith.

im 4 weeks in and nearly had one today..........smoking is an emotion supressor - so for those about to stop (dont ever think 'give up' as it puts it on a peddle stool) - expect some turbulant feelings for a short while.

Personally, I think if you really WANT to give up, you can do it. The amount of people who have commented to me that 'I was the last person they would have thought would give up' is quite unbelievable!!!
I've had half-hearted attempts in the past and given up for a few weeks here and there, but this is the first time I've really wanted to quit. It's now 1 year and 11 days from 20 a day for over 40 years.
I still crave one occasionally but I'm not going back, no way:)
Just need to shift those pesky 20 pounds - might have to try the Hove Park run:eek:

I think these story's are amazing. I have been off them now for 5 months and i am not going to lie but sometimes i still could murder one. But that passes in a few moments.

I hope everyone; Cars, FOOTSKI, JamesAndTheGiantHead, hybrid_x, Adders1, Soulman, Petunia and everyone else i haven't mentioned are successful and strong.

PS Thanks for the support - we'll all beat it together:thumbup:

16 months for me now. Smoked for 25 years. Went from 20 cigs to about 30 rollies per day to stopping altogether.

Do i miss it? NO

Do i crave or get urges still? No, they all went around 14 months. I've just come back from a 3 week holiday and never once wanted one.

I'm completely free

August 12th is day one for me. Been smoking for the last seven years, never really thought about giving up as I'm only just 21, but the sense of invincibility is starting to fade now, thinks it's about time to change.
Finished uni and started my job as a sports journalist in January and the added stresses of deadlines and unconventional hours has seen me getting through 20 a day now, whereas I used to be fine on six or seven.
My bosses hate me doing it, i'm wasting loads of money on it and it's not exactly a great image when at major events and nipping out for a fag every couple of hours. Seems to make sense.

I'm really determined to do it but I think I'm going to go with something as opposed to going cold turkey. Not sure whether to use Champix or battle through with the e-cig in honesty, do you just have to make an appointment with the GP and say "I want to stop smoking, dish me a prescription" to get Champix? Is it worth the side-effects etc?

Well done - it isnt called the glorious 12th for nothing !
Most gp surguries have a specialist smoking cessation nurse to advise and support you - if not see your actual gp. I was seriously admitted to nicotine and the patches worked a treat for me. You can do it - very best wishes ! And if you go through a rough/tough patch, good old nsc is here for you 24/7

Day 6 for me. So far, has been much less stressful than I remembered from previous efforts.

If I can stay off them this time, I too can look forward to draining the health service budget with replacement hips, painkillers, anti-depressants, state pensions, weekly visits to the local GP surgery, chiropody, arthritis, dementia, incontinence and finally an expensive, yet poor quality state-funded Care Home so I can be abused by staff who are academically 'bright', but totally unsuited to actually care for their patients.

So much to look forward to.

But, most of all....I hope I stay off the ciggies and that eventually, a confirmed non-smoker will teach me how to look down on smokers with that 'oh, so superior arrogance' and the ability to look a smoker in the eye with far more contempt and disdain than they would an Al Qaeda terrorist.

Good luck to all future converts.
