To be honest, I'd worry about other ten batsmen's runs long before Monty's contribution became a concern.

Currently, we are in desperate need of a tail, Prior,Swann and Tremlett were not scoring, we need to boost our bowling plus runs from the tail. Monty isn't going to take quick cheap wickets or hold up an end with the bat, Bresnan would have been a good bowling option plus he can bat.

After the way they went after Swann in the 1st test I'd imaging the selectors want the option of Monty holding one end. Time will tell if it's the right option.

As for comments about shortening the batting, I'd rather go more attacking and play the extra bowler. There's no point in relying on your lower order to make runs.

Brilliant. We lose the toss.

Now I have to watch Watson smack his way to 40 and out.

That's pissed on our chips, 2 spinners far less potent when bowling first.

Indeed, I'd bank on the convicts making 450 plus unless Anderson and Broad really fire. Looks like this will be my one night up late this week.

It works for the Aussies.

There isn't a plan B. If your top 5 regularly fail to make runs then you're going to lose cricket matches, simple as. Sometimes the tail will get you out of trouble but they don't get you wins and you can't pick the team on that basis.

That is a really bad toss to lose, we're pissing in the wind from the start here. Even if we perform well with bat and ball we might only get a draw, we're relying on them playing badly here if we want the win.

@CricketAustralia have just tweeted a photo of four Sikh guys dressed as Teletubbies, with the caption "Will the real Monty Panesar please stand up?".

Nope, can't see how that could POSSIBLY go wrong

Precisely, our batting line up will not win us this game and our bowling attack won't either, thus we hope for plan C which is to try to lose SLOWLY, and this team selection won't be able to do even that.

This is going to be a very long day. Warner looking ominously in good nick.
