Indeed, I won't upgrade for the sake of it, but it's nice to know there's one out there when I want one. My only gripes with my current one is the battery time and the weight, and looks like the weight issue is improved. To be fair, I mostly use it on the train and put it on the table, bit I did have to stand on the train this week, and it was a bit heavy after a while..

Battery life, really?

We've still got a launch day original iPad ('iPad 1'), primarily used by my youngest as a video and games machine, and although I'd guess the battery has deteriorated slightly, it's still very good. Our iPad Mini does the quoted 10 hours if not more, regardless of what we do with it.

Are you saying that the c10 hours they give is not enough for you or that yours has reduced significantly over the course of your ownership?

I'd say that the battery life on my 2 is BETTER than that on my son's 4, although that could be because he never puts the thing down.

I'm sure the 4 is heavier, too.

The thing I still can't fathom is how I can leave an iPad totally untouched for a week or more, hit the sleep/wake button and it's instantly on and connected to the web.

Amazing things...

Well, I've not done an metrics on it, but it doesn't seem to last very long. It's fine for a day, I'm not sure it would last me 2 days. Difficult to say if it has degraded, it's only about 18 months old.

The problem isn't with you. It's the people who'll buy whichever new product Apple bring out regardless of whether they need it and queue all night to be the first to have it. It's just a bit tragic.

Yup, I don't understand that, exactly.

Look in Settings > General > Usage when it's about to run out. You should be getting c10 hours.

I'm gonna get myself a retina ipad mini to add to the family. We have an original iPad and an iPad3 the missus is starting to feel the original ipad is too slow and clunky so I am handing down my ipad 3 to her and will get myself one of them. I'm more excited about the new features in Mavericks really though and as its a free upgrade all the better.

Mavericks being free is the correct price point considering how little it's bringing to the table. I've got the new versions of the iWork suite and they're particularly useless, they might as well just give up on them.

I find the iWork suite for ipad to be useful but have never bought the mac versions, prefering one of the free office suites.

t'other day I realised I could make a voice recording on my iPhone. I'd done it before but forgotten about this simple feature. How brilliant. What an excellent little function.

Until you get home and realise you can't get what you've recorded off your phone and on to your computer. SUCH A SIMPLE THING. Dicks.

edit: bit of a random rant I know, but, Apple chat + Recent Apple uselessness = the above

You just transfer it back through iTunes. It's then stored in your iTunes library.

In fact, you're voice memos are probably already synced there. Go to your library, click genres, then Voice Memo and you might find them all there. If not, sync your iPhone. Easy.
