What supermarket do you use?

Re Waitrose my mum recently told me she was listening to the radio and heard a comedian say he'd been in Waitrose recently and overheard someone ask "do we need Parmesan for both houses dear?". When she told my step dad he said he'd once been inn their local Waitrose and heard a man say "please put the guava down, Orlando."

Sounds like the Waitrose visit is nothing like a visit to Lidl in Newhaven!!

At the moment, Sainsbury's because it's next door to where my kids do karate on a Saturday morning, so I can kill two birds with one stone. Best food is Waitrose though - I'll go there if I fancy something nice. But their discounts are rubbish. Morrison's is best for discounted everyday stuff.

Sainsbury also do brand match.
Aldi & Lidl use German brands and are very well thought of on the continent.

I am a big Lidl fan - lots of their own brand stuff is as good as/better than many name brands (there ob ice cream f'rinstance).

Sanisburys I tend to shop anywhere and everywhere else where possible. Not sure if any other company has such poor employee relations.

Everything for me is sourced locally. Either the local Sainsburys or local Tesco. It's great to be able to do something for the local business community.

Asda Online for the weekly shop at the moment, it's cheaper. If we need a few bits we go to Sainsburys or Tesco depending on where we are.

i was just browsing through this thread over my morning bacon sandwich and shot a loaf when i read your post,are you sure about this fact?I know there was much discussion not long ago about halal meat and mainstream suppliers but the supermarkets somehow managed to dodge the radar on that certain subject.

Living in Littlehampton gives us a choice of lots of food shops - Tesco, Sainsburys, Waitrose, Lidl, Co op, Morrisons and Asda.

We mostly shop at Morrisons as the fresh food selection is very good. The meat selection is the best of all with a big choice of cuts which you don't get at the other big supermarkets. We also use the Coop quite a bit. Both try to use British supplies for fresh food.

We used to use Aldi a fair bit but we don't have one in Littlehampton at present.

Tesco - it's the closest biggish supermarket. The Co-op in the village gets a fair bit of our custom however.

One thing that I've never understood, although I've not bothered to look into it closely, is how Tesco's Clubcard scheme can be so much better than the alternative loyalty schemes. We've had 2 weeks all-inclusive in Cuba, care of Virgin Holidays, paid for entirely with Clubcard vouchers as well as many tens of thousands of Virgin miles which save me thousands of pounds on Virgin flights. The Nectar scheme seems woeful in comparison.

I'm all for budgeting, and don't mind Aldi or Lidl. I have to draw the line at Iceland though.
