Surely the game must be in some doubt??

with a 400 mile/8 hour return journey to home games this is my main concern. I have visions of making it as far as a gridlocked M25 only to hear on the radio that rhe game is off

The worst of the rain will be before the game, and both the strongest winds and heaviest rain will (on current forecast trajectory) be localised to near the south coast.

If things progress as forecast things will be much calmer by mid afternoon.

The rain during the match is not the problem, it's the health and safety aspects caused by the wind and rain earlier in the day, if the trains are incapacitated and the police and emergency services tied up elsewhere the game will not go on

I don't see that a period of 60-70mph winds along the coast, without a flood tide, and with trees no longer in leaf will be that disruptive. When I was a lad I used to go out on Shoreham West Arm during these storms with my mates to and see how far we could get along before we got drenched. Admittedly one friend did get washed off the inside of the arm once (with his bike).

I guess having grown up on Shoreham Beach (Old Fort road) I'm used to storms like this.

Looks like the worst part which just skim us.

It will almost always be stronger over the open sea, as there is less friction to slow the winds down. The coastal strip will be the place to be (or not) depending on your view point.

If it does change track this could be the strongest storm seen for many years. It would take something big to beat the storm of 87 thou.

I'm not sure what would be worse - the trains from London stopping running and preventing me getting to the game, or the trains not running afterwards and leaving me to kip halfway up West Street. ???

Probably a silly question but how soon will we know if it's coming up the channel? I mean if it hits Lands End on Sunday night/Monday morning does that mean you will get it down south or could it still move North and hit near me nearer the Midlands?

It will be something of a nowcast type scenario. The actual path will only be known as it occurs. I'll no-doubt be on here/twitter keeping an eye on the live data.

The comparison is a bit silly. the '87 storm had recorded winds in excess of 100 mph both here and northern France. I can't see winds about 70 mph from this. Plus the trees are not in leaf like they were in '87.
