All those owned by Drink In Brighton are basically identical now, so that rules half out. Got to be the Battle of Trafalgar for me.

I predict this gong very badly! It's just going to end in an argument between "lager drinkers with no tastebuds" and "real ale beer nazis" with the occasional "cider drinking freak" chirping in.

At least one banning and one flounce is my prediction.

For what it is worth I think the Albert is probably my favourite pub in Brighton at the moment.

Slightly outside the Brighton and Hove catchment area, but seconded anyway.

Ignore me - slightly Shoreham obssessed.

........and I'll withdraw my second for the "Brighton - Duke Of Wellington", always hated the place after a bunch of "fans" abused Mr Patel from the Spar opposite the pub!

I don't think that's true. In fact I'm often mildly impressed by how they manage to keep some of them unique. Not all of them, admittedly, but they're certainly not all identikit like with Wetherspoons.

Compare the Sidewinder with the Saint George's Inn for instance. They're distinctly different from one another.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one to stick up for big pubcos, BUT I don't think they do too bad a job with their portfolio

sorry, im just pissed off that pretty much all of their pubs used to sell Harveys and it's now become hard to get in Brighton. Went to the Prince George the other day and they had EIGHT pale ales, with no bitters, milds, porters, olds or anything else.

Seconding or adding in:

Albert
Great Eastern
George

And for the sake of a larger competition:

Good Companions
Station Hotel (or whatever it is called by PP station)
North Laine
Open House
Signalman

I'll second the Signalman as it's my local - even though it's gone downhill in the last few months.

That is exactly what will happen, however it will be fun watching it happen...

It's all about well kept beer, friendly regulars and tip top bar staff:

The Farm (Garf et al)
Bow Street Runner (John et al)
The Conqueror (Brendan et al)
Coopers Cask (ME et al)

this represents a very lazy social life

Actually that is a very valid point. I quite like the Laine's Best which you often find in their pubs but you won't find it in all of them, which is odd considering they brew it themselves, and their other choices can be a bit hit and miss. They do frequently stock WJ King beers however, and they're generally very decent

I'd forgotten the Farm. Used to drink there a lot. Is it still run by Martha?

Im bringing my gf to Brighton next month, so this is useful...want her to experience a
'proper' English/Brighton boozer...preferably a non violent one, somewhere central.
