Jack Wilshere?

If one of the provisos is whether TCB wants to be shagged by him this might be another non starter

The first time I saw David in the flesh was an experience I cherish more than the first time I had sex. It was England v Macedonia at St Mary's. He was absolutely unplayable, and on a different planet to any other England player on the pitch. The precision in his passing was quite exceptional and I don't think there has been another English footballer in my lifetime capable of delivering that.

I'd've thought the first time you saw Gary Barlow was the experience you'd cherish more than the first time you had sex, unless that was with Gary Barlow of course.

very few sportsmen on the planet have EVER come close to beckhams stardom. Very much doubt an englishman in any sport will ever come close to replicating him

Really can't think of many athletes who are as famous as he is outside of the sporting world

Bolt who is the real deal. Beckham has always been style ( or hype) over substance and has never produced against World Class sides.

To be David Beckham, you need a great deal of talent and a great deal of application.

I don't know a huge great deal about players coming through, but I reckon players need to practice more if they want to succeeded.

"He cannot kick with his left foot, he cannot head a ball, he cannot tackle and he doesn't score many goals. Apart from that he's all right" - George Best on Beckham.

Beckham as a footballer was a limited player who made the best of his ability with great application. As a brand and the way he sold himself to the world and made millions of $$$'s was/is phenomenal. As a ambassador for the game he is a true gentlemen.

So to be the next Beckham you need to be a limited footballer, good looking, a nice guy and very marketable on a global level.

Beckham isn't particularly talented IMHO but he is famous for working VERY hard at his game. His dead ball practice is legendary and he was often the last bloke on the training pitch banging ball after ball into the net from all over the park.

If you watch him play he is not the greatest athlete or the most skilful with the ball but his passing and positional play was spot on.

The shout for Barclay at Everton is a good one but he reminds me more of Rooney...he isn't good looking enough to command Beckhams image popularity that's for damn sure

I am not so sure. You would need to clarify your definition of highest level anyway. Roberto Carlos was 22(ish) before he moved out of Brazil, Zidane was 20 before he moved to Bordeaux, although he had played in the French top flight previously, and was Cannavaro not 20 when he made his Napoli debut?
But, never mind, carry on making inaccurate sweeping statements.

And Kevin Keegan was at Scunthorpe at 18

If he was really any good (and I mean set for the very top) then at 18 he'd be playing every week for an EPL outfit. He might go on to play in the EPL but, as harsh as it sounds, he'd be doing a lot more than he is now if he was really THAT good.

Not neccessarily; he could be a late developer.

Correct about how hard he worked, he also transferred that onto the pitch.

I think it's harsh to say that he was limited or not the most skillful. It depends who you're comparing him against, if it's against the greats then fair enough but be still would've been in the top 10% when compared to every other player of his time. What sets Beckham apart as a winger is that he had the ultimate end product, probably the best ever.
