I'd rather do Ditchling Beacon than Box Hill! Box Hill goes seems to go on for ever. And (as stated before) is part of a 15 mile detour, which is an additional 30% of journey we probably don't need to do.

I love Box Hill. Bizarre isn't it, the hills that you grow to like and dislike.

I'm OK with the Beacon really, it's just my mates make me do it with them too often, and then go up it quicker than I do. :annoyed:

Training going well. Putting in plenty of miles.

Is there any value in getting together beforehand for a practice ride?

OK people, the organising group are meeting up this week to properly kick things into action for the REMF ride.

I will be in touch with those of you who have agreed to ride / lend support separately via PM. To make things easier for me I am going to do the bulk of the organising via email, as this is a lot simpler than using the NSC software and quicker for me to check and respond to. If you could send your own email address to snook4hcharity@gmail.com if you are one of these people I would be very grateful. If not I will be chasing you up via PM anyway.

Finally I completed a wicked training ride at the weekend, and have put a review up on the blog. Please check it out.

So I do. Well spotted.

Actual email is snook4charity@gmail.com

Well spotted.

James

Hi James,

I've set up my page now, I hope it's okay that I raise funds for the REMF by joining together my RideLondon100 and our Charity ride together. I figure I'd get more out of my friends and family that way.

I've applied to join the team page through just giving.

Boy and Girls,

If you still want to do this there are spaces and plenty of time to try and raise a bit of cash for REMF.

I am doing most of the organising via email, as I don't get the chance to come onto NSC much anymore.

If you are interested all you need to do is email snook4charity@gmail.com and say so and I will be in touch.

Thanks

James

We have 7 registered with JG pages as we speak. Trying to raise £ 5000 as a team.

Whatever the team will be we will raise some decent money. Thanks for all your hard work with this project.

@champion7 - I think the £250 was a target to set up the Just Giving pages; not a requirement to join in. If you're doing those rides, then you'll be an asset to the event (I'm also doing the RideLondon100) whether you raise £10 or £1000.

In answer to routes, I'd say we start with the Brighton to London route as a model, then adapt as necessary to ensure we are enjoying decent quiet roads. Those of us that have done local Sportives can also suggest amendments for as scenic a route as possible. For example we may wish to come down on the East side of the A23 via Turners Hill round the back of Haywards Heath. http://www.cycle-route.com/routes/Toms_London_to_Brighton-Cycle-Route-183.html

Depending on how many people we have, I'd also make the suggestion that you group people into say 10 or so people depending on type of bike, level of experience and stagger the setting off between groups by say 3 mins or so - this is normal practice at organised sportives. I don't think it's particularly safe to have more than 20 say all riding together. We can then all bunch up together on the final climb up Ditchling Beacon!

That looks good, though I'd come down the closed road into Stamner village and not down Coldean Lane (and DEFINITELY not down the A27, that can't be right!).

The notes at the bottom are scaring me though. 2hrs 40 mins? Who's doing London to Brighton at 20mph average?! Bugger me!

I agree with all of your route except Ditchling Beacon. Ditchling Beacon is like Burnley. It can f off.

Hello Guys,

The time has come to think about planning the route. As you three seem to know what you are on about, can you either

a) come up with a good route between you
b) help me to come up with a good route
c) tell me what I need to use (websites, resources etc) to plan a route.

Many thanks

Also its a lot easier if we do this via email for me so if you can email me your thoughts to snook4hcharity@gmail.com I would be very grateful
