In this case it wouldn't be his insurance paying out anyway, so it doesn't matter.

There should be as its going to cost be a fortune to get fixed

How much damage can a bicycle actually cause to a car? If he hit you hard enough to dent the body work he was probably quite badly hurt.

Her parents must be so proud that they've brought up such a selfish, self-centred little airhead who's desperate for attention
#me me me, oooh look at me everyone

still would though

Think I prefer the Lycra and tattoos. She looks a right air-head.

This is the reason bike insurance isn't mandatory. Cyclists would still be liable for damage caused to a car when at fault; however there's only so much damage a soft(ish) mass of around 80-100kg that's travelling no faster than 20 mph can do if it hits a car, or even a pedestrian. Any car on the road is capable of writing off another car or, in the worst case, causing a fatality.

Why are cyclists fair game when people riding horses are not seen to be as such? A horse could do far more damage to your car but doesn't need to pay vehicle excise duty or insurance either.

How about uninsured drivers ? We all have to pay additional premiums for these free loaders and good luck if you happen to be in an accident with one. There are reckoned to be one million of these scumbags on the road.

He never had insurance to be on the road to shouldn't be on it as a bike drove into my car and when challenged to **** he gave me wrong details and left me with big bill to get car body work repaired, so fair play to the young girl

Sounds like it was your fault....

No point diverting the arguement here, because they are breaking the law. An uninsured cyclist or horse rider isn't.

The problem isn't really about having or not having insurance, it's about obeying, or not obeying the law.

And failing to stop after an accident without reporting it to the Police later is a criminal offence. A legal defence might be possible, but given this woman knows she has hit somebody, and therefore admits to the accident, she has a case to answer under Section 170(2) of the Road Traffic act 1988.

The maximum sentence for the failing to stop offence is 6 months in prison, but they may decide to impose points or disqualify her if there are mitigating circumstances, but from reading the cyclist's statement, I really cannot see any.

Take the pictures of the two of them and now imagine he had gone after her with a baseball bat. I am still not sure why it is seen as so trivial to assault someone with several tons of turbo charged metal.

The argument that it was unintentional ends the minute you drive off without checking to see if the victim is okay. I would really like to see to see long bans 5-10 years for this type of offence, not because I am anti-car, just because I am against letting idiots back on the road.

I'm afraid it doesn't end there as in my case. I was slowing on my bike indicating to turn right where I worked. The Jaguar behind me then decided to overtake me and despite the fact my motor bike took off his wing mirror, made some lovely scraping noises down the side of his car, he drove on. He was stopped by the police later and gave the old excuse, "he didn't see or realise he had hit me". That was enough for the police not to press charges, that and the fact he lives in a big house in the nice part of town.

The Metropolitan Police, not serving or protecting you any time soon...unless you earn lots of money.

Cars should be licenced the same way guns are - you have to prove you need one before you can have one. 95% of the cars out there shouldn't be. Let's get rid of them and get our land back. Cyclists, pedestrians and horse riders do have the right of way (except on motorways), cars are only allowed on roads under licence. Cyclists statistically pay more road tax than car owners. Road tax (abolished in 1937) should be brought back - why should we subsidise scum in cars. This woman should be prosecuted for attempted murder and be banned from car ownership for life. FACT.

I've been knocked off my bike, woman pulled out in front of me on a roundabout. I made a big dent in her wing. Me and my bike was okay, her car needed a new panel but she was happy not to get the popo involved.

I've also been sat in stationary traffic and had a cyclist run into the back of my car! That was very annoying, when I got out, he cycled off calling me a wanker.

Silly little girl. Can't be the sharpest tool in the box having admitted what she did on Twitter. Hopefully there is enough evidence for 'careless driving' and 'failing to stop' at the scene of an accident. Plus evidence from her taking photos of other stuff while driving, so she clearly needs to learn a lesson and do some growing up.

Plus she stupidly allowed her employer's name to be brought into disrepute so could face trouble there too.

On the road tax debate there are quite a few cars with low emissions that don't pay vehicle excise duty tax, just like cyclists.

By your logic, couldn't you say the same about computers, TVs, the internet, phone lines? Insane theory in my opinion.

Being one of those #bloodycyclists I don’t think it’s the car drivers that are the problem - mostly its cab drivers and buses!! A large proportion of Brighton cyclists are a pain in the ass though - the amount of times I’ve seen zebra crossing and lights ignored are bound to wind people up. Doesn’t excuse gobby airheads like the bell end pictured however - is it me or is the youth genuinely getting THICK!

Walking around London every day - well the city, anyway, it feels like the vast majority of cyclists simply ignore traffic lights - they don't even slow down. I was hit the day other by one going straight through a red light, he didn't even look round.

Everyone has anecdotal stories about other's dangerous/illegal road use. It doesn't actually matter, or add anything to the argument because it isn't cyclists/pedestrians/drivers/buses that are the problem but PEOPLE. I see dangerous road use by all groups on an almost daily basis, but they aren't idiots because of their choice of transport at that time, but because they're selfish individuals who don't care thether they cause a risk to anyone else. They don't care if they're in the wrong or not.

I've been cycling for a while now and find the older generation the worst. They have no idea on the speed you are travelling and often pull out in front of you in a very sluggish manner, or they drive pass you with only inches to spare. Bloody old gits. :lolol:
