This is a good sign. If the Tories do get hammered then it has echoes of 1997.

The Tories get hammered - a few days later something marvellous happens to the Albion.

This UKIP thing is getting to be a joke. 2 points:

1. The voting population are generally ignorant about the facts relating to our membership of the EU.
2. The voting population have no idea what UKIP's other policies are, apart from "Let's Get Out Of Europe".

I can't remember a time when all 3 of the main parties were failing so spectacularly all at the same time. Labour still hold the smoking gun, Cameron is looking weak and the Lib Dems have lost credibility.

I have a European Studies Master Degree and even I don't have a clue about some of this stuff. How many people are going to come from Bulgaria / Romania? How many came from Poland? Will our trade with Spain improve or decline if we're not in the EU? How much grant money do we get from the EU and where does it go? The list goes on.

And I maintain that both Tory and Labour should be doing a lot better than they are at the moment. The rise of UKIP and low turnouts are proof that both are being rejected.

Well done you - in my experience someone that uses their "degree" as an debate winner automatically shows their lack of real life understanding. "I've got a degree so I must be clever and right." !!!

Nobody really knows is the answer about Bulgaria and Romania hence why we should set a limit. From Poland Labour estimated 80,000 and 800,000 came.

Er, I've mentioned my degree in the context of being ignorant of the facts. And it would be naive of anyone to think Europe is an argument that can be 'won' or 'lost'.

Everyone has different opinions, but what is disappointing is that the public aren't presented with the facts about Europe - good or bad. These days the news is too full of celebrity gossip and chav idiots doing crazy stuff, and not enough about things that actually make a difference. The politicians know the nation is instinctively somewhere between 50/50 - 40/60 in favour of Europe, so for them that means too much exposure to lost votes if they come down firmly on one side of the fence.

UKIP came second in all but 2 of the seats in Eastbourne - 3 were Conservative but 6 were Lib Dem - but then Eastbourne is one of the Lib Dems main towns now.

who is the MP in eastbourne at the moment?

Tories come bottom of the poll, with 3.8 per cent of the vote, in Lewes Town, behind Ruth O'Keeffe (Independent), Green, Labour, LibDem and UKIP (in that order).

Good to see Ruth triumph! A great supporter of Lewes FC and very active in the struggle for the club's survival.

Bloody hell!

UKIP win the ward I live in (Ouse Valley East) - previously LibDem (and, once upon a time, Norman Baker's stronghold).

I've known the new councillor for years. He's a complete idiot, with not a clue about anything.

Sorry to ask such an ignorant question but can anyone tell me why the LibDems have such popularity on the South Coast?

In the Lewes area ... it has to be admitted that it was the effort that Norman Baker put in, before he turned his attention to Parliament. Eastbourne was also (and still is) a Lib Dem stronghold from the 1970s onwards. They even controlled Hastings a few years back.
