I live in a country that reportedly has one of the highest rates of rape and sexual abuse towards women in the world.

Most of this abuse is done by men/boys who do not have access to the internet. We also do not have pornographic tv channels.

Unfortunately this kind of information will be disregarded by the feminists , religious nutters and right wing do gooders in their pursuit of changing society to match their own values.

its not actually a ban, its a vote on a resolution to call for a ban. either way, its not going to go anywhere. this is exactly the sort of thing that will make half the nations in the EU start to question exactly why they are in the EU, or ask if its gone too far.

I can't even imagine what a memory style **** will be like or even how long it'll take. Online gambling is allowed yet porn isn't? What the **** is going on these days? I'm moving to Asia.

I always thought UKIP voters were a bunch of wankers, looks like I'll be proved right.

It all comes down to how you define "pornography". I guess they'll want to set up a special committee that will spend all its time inspecting potentially pornographic material and certify it as fit or unfit for European consumption.

Economic ruin for Germany!

This.

No Red Light District in Holland; Russia economy ruined; France ruined.....someone must be like "this is a violation of my Human Rights"

Why ban it? It's educational!
Bozza will this affect sponsorship with Google ads!?

At the end of my tether
Hmmm. I would have expected better of The Telegraph......behind the sensational headline is a MOTION FOR A EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT RESOLUTION (not legally binding) on eliminating gender stereotypes in the EU.. This appears, to my laymans eyes , to have more to do with employment opportunities than porn.

It does note however that "whereas in television programmes, computer games and musical video clips there is an increasingly noticeable tendency, partly for commercial purposes, to show provocatively dressed women, in sexual poses, " that is a long way away from "banning porn" although some fear a "slippery slope" reaction....

Sensational journalism IMHO.

NB Mustafa Kemal and I seem to have had a similar background . I am with him on this.

Not the real one
I agree with a national firewall that blocks out porn but you have the right to opt out and have no firewall. I've got young kids and its just to easy for kids (especially boys) to watch some truly extreme pornography. It means at 11-15 yr olds think that the way sex is in porn, is the way it is in real life. Then they are surprised when a girl actually doesn't want DP in her arse. We learnt about a girls bits by looking at a stolen porno mag when I was at school. But that was it, and it was pretty tame, parade penthouse and the like. Just big tits mainly. But these days, kids are getting corrupted by online porn. So while the EU are going too far, I agree with a national firewall.

Provided every citizen of every EU state has a seat on that committee, so we can all see everything and vote on what can get through. I'd be happy with that.

Take action against discrimination of women in advertising?

Do they realise every single advert in the history of breakfast bars has involved a man doing something stupid and a woman laughing?

The state needs to step in and authoritise when an aspect of culture is causing significant damage to society. I believe that applies to internet porn, MAINLY because children are growing up being exposed things that I couldn't even imagined when I was their age. And I'm glad for that! because I grew up with realistic expectations of sex and don't objectify women, but I question whether that's the case for youngsters these days.

I agree completely that children are not being protected enough from pornography.

But when it comes to children, where does the responsibility lay? Does it lay with parents? or with the government?
