North stand standing what a joke

Jesus this is boring. Same old moaners. I believe the club were approached by a group with regard to safe standing and addressed the issue. Millions spent on an all seater stadium so they are not going to spend a few million more to put in safe standing facilities when there is no economic benefit. Unfortunately those that think they have a god given right to stand will keep bleating on about it. Personally it doesn't affect me as I sit in the WSU. Sit for most of the game and get up when it gets exciting. I also am not against those that want to stand provided you are not in the way of those behind you who might want to sit. Unfortunately it again comes down to the perception of a god given right and sod anyone behind who doesn't concur.

Apart from the general tone of your post, your opinion is actually pretty close to that of the "boring moaners" as you put it. We're talking about people right at the back of the North here. Everyone is in that area for a reason

A lot of voices out there on this! Pro's and con's for standing but what I am struggling to understand is that some individuals believe that absolutely everyone in the NS wants to stand! Clearly this is not true and many are forced to do so by some selfish fans who have no thought for anyone else at all!

I am in the WSL and we have our own selfish prick who insists on standing and he is in Row A! Does he have to god given right to stand? No! He is just a selfish bastard!

Like it or not standing is deemed to be unsafe and until a review is carried out to say otherwise, standing won't be allowed! It's all to do with crowd dynamics and anyone bored enough to do a little research will understand why! But we don't do research, we just object!!

All that said, they should either enforce it every game or not at all! Pointless otherwise and all respect lost!

That may be so but not by over zealous stewards who clearly have had someone ejected for something "others" around him were doing then saying it was for swearing and being abusive which it seems it wasn't. I was told by a steward close to what happened that was the reason he was being ejected and it seems he was singled out to send a message......totally unreasonable

Agreed- I am not suggesting the stewards have all been angels- though it also possible that some fans haven't either?

Many fans are prize pricks and should be ejected.....I've lost count of the times I have witnessed behaviour that should have been dealt with but isn't. Its just that in this particular case a fan has been poorly dealt with by stewards and the police who may now be banned. That's what the original OP was on about yet many posters have missed the point and widened this into a wider debate about the rights and wrongs of standing

Let's be honest. The stewards were having a dry run for Palarse. We've has 18 months of generally good relations with stewards, it would foolish of the club to engage in provocative nonsense now.

Let's be honest. Anyone who chooses to have a ticket in north must know it will be noisier etc than other parts of ground. Also there's more likely to be more standing. So can't imagine people complaining. Esp Sat when there's a thousand spare seats elsewhere in the north nearer the front?!

Don't have that much sympathy, but where the North Stand boys are entitled to feel hard done by - the double standards. Away fans do what they like and stand. The stewards do nothing to stop it. Was always the case at Withdean and continues to be the case now. The club are only enforcing the regulations against the North Stand because it is easier. Not the right approach.

While I agree with your sentiments I think you mean "easier to harass individual fans". 2500 in the North yeasterday. 780 odd Huddersfield fans of who the back 6 or 7 rows stood constantly. It would surely have been easy to tackle the Huddersfield fans if the actual intention is to enforce the ground regulations.

Erm... but it is allowed. Have the club fitted extra safety features to the back 4 rows... where the club have publicly said they're happy for people to stand? No, of course not. And will Palace fans be allowed, all of them, in two weeks? Yes they will.

Perhaps somebody could post some images taken from games played this very weekend up and down the country, where you will be able to see for yourself entire stands full of people STANDING all match without causing any trouble, without the stewards interfering.

What's happening at the Amex is extremely unusual. Other clubs DON'T treat their loyal fans/customers with this level of suspicion and aggression. Why are the club doing this?

A dry run for what? The away fans will be left to enjoy their afternoon whilst the home fans creating the atmosphere will be harrassed and bullied into shutting up and not backing the team.

Actually, this approach is being followed for the policing on the day, with away fans being given pubs on West Street, and then being given a nice walk to the station, where their own train is waiting for them, and then straight into the ground. Whilst the home fans are held back. The same applies after the game too.

How about making some decisions in the interests of us home fans for a change!

It also appeared to be a dry run for many 'fans' in the north stand. From where I was in the East, the guy in the beige duffel coat who appeared to be winding up the stewards and encouraging fans to get up out of their seats needs to wear less identifiable clothing or he'll be first out at the Palace game.

These are proper supporters, trying to support their team. Sad day in my mind.

Beginning to doubt after yesterday's mass exodus from the North Stand on 85 minutes that there are many "proper supporters" there. Proper supporters stay until the end of a game.

As the name would imply I have been a steward before (last 3 years at Withdean and half the first season at the Amex.
I went to the game yesterday and was in the north stand and was shocked at the piss poor stewarding and the ejections. I know the response lot at Withdean were idiots, but my god this new breed are shocking. the biggest shock to me was the fact that they had to get the police in at half time to chuck a few people out - If I missed something and these people had actually committed serious offences then please ignore this but from my understanding the only crime was standing.

I have been away for a while so wondered Is it like this all the time? Also, from my memory the north stand was marketed as a rowdy place with standing tolerated in the back 4 rows. It was also marketed like this for when stewards were picking their preferred stand to work on - Surely the fact they are now doing this is false advertising and setting you up to fail?

Sorry to ramble on I am just genuinely shocked at how bad it was!

What stand were you working in last season and what sort of instructions were you given regarding people standing?

I think Im hacked off enough about this to write a letter to the club and see if I get a reply at least. Anybody know the correct email? The "feedback" one seems to be the only one worth writing to.

I send Richard Hebberd an email a few months back about the stewarding issues in the North and he replied saying that there were no issues, it was all the fans fault and that I was so far wrong that I was lucky he was even bothering to reply. The guy is an utter prick. And an utter prick who may well be out of a job at the end of the season as well. I hope so.

Can you post his reply on here?

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
