Stewards at WHLane right now, semi watching the game and out of the way.

At the Amex, whispering and staring at the NS punters. Weird.

I know its very odd behaviour down at the Albion. Maybe Brighton as a club could learn something from Spurs both on and off the pitch.

That was very odd, to say the least. 20 of them standing in that corner staring at people and then talking into each others ears while not breaking their stare at the fans so people know they're being talked about, this went on for the entire 2nd half. It's on overt act of aggression, there's no need for it.

At the presentations the spiel was that the back of the North Stand was a more tolerant area for those fans who wanted to create an atmosphere and stand up for most of the game. The club has now backtracked and is saying everyone has misinterpreted what was originally said.

Its their own fault for now being clearer. I interpret it as not sitting the whole match and not standing the whole match - the bit in the middle but obviously the club think different.

They have CERTAINLY said it is relaxed though, but again, what is relaxed ?

From a legal perspective, if they made some fearful of them then that could be an assault, as assault without physical contact is still an assault.

I take it you have not been to Spurs, Leeds or many a ground up and down the country. Brighton are again shooting itself in the foot. Its our speciality, we even gave Murray to our rivals to bang in 28 goals so far, now we want to chuck out fans that get behind the team and piss off the younger generation. Strange club at times are Brighton

I've been everywhere and I don't disagree with what you say, I surprised that no one has been fined yet especially Man U because they were specifically warned about it.

If people in the North Stand do want safe standing areas then it might be better to take the route of saying to the club if we all sit down and prove we won't have a ruck can we have the areas rather than have the club say you can't have it because of the hassle there is now?

Agreed.
I looked back at the supporters in the NW corner a few times, they were having a good time, singing and smiling.

Rebels without a clue. I bet if it was made legal to stand up, then they'd all sit down. Sad, sad, sad.

Too right mate, nobody stands at Spurs or Leeds. Oh. Moral of the story is for those in the North Stand to get their complaint in first. If anyone points at you and whispers then that could be an assault, and there are plenty of friendly policemen to report that hooligan to.

I don't want to get in to what was said two years ago, or dispute the benefits of a rowdy North STAND to the games as a whole.

However, Hebberd and co are legally required to enforce the all-seater nature of the stadium as part of its safety certificate. Whether we agree or not, that is what they are legally bound to do. If they are not seen to be doing so, at some stage we could risk having areas of the stadium closed or capacity reduced- as has happened at some prem grounds where away fans have stood persistently.

In essence, if we sit down when asked and then stand up again at some suitable moment of excitement, everyone will have been playing the game if you like. Refusing to sit may be principled, but it is the equivalent of driving off at speed when a copper has stopped you for speeding and then given you a warning (not suggesting this is the same danger). You could expect the copper to then nick you!

The club cannot "agree" to standing persistently until safe standing areas can be licensed legally, whatever individual officer might personally want. They will have to talk the talk about ground regs, and chuck out random people who don't sit down quick enough.

Interestingly, I see the Palace board are pushing hard to incorporate a safe standing area into a revamped Selhurst- but until the Taylor Report regs are recalibrated for Football Grounds, this stand up/sit down game will continue. We have even had it in the back row of the SW corner!

That may be so but not by over zealous stewards who clearly have had someone ejected for something "others" around him were doing then saying it was for swearing and being abusive which it seems it wasn't. I was told by a steward close to what happened that was the reason he was being ejected and it seems he was singled out to send a message......totally unreasonable

I don't doubt from a legal perspective that you may be right, but doesn't that say everything about what a nation of f***ing spineless bed-wetters we're becoming.

Someone pointed at me. And whispered.

I couldn't agree more, but as the old saying goes, what is sauce for the Goose, is sauce for the Gander as well. If daft apeths want to throw out kids for singing at football in the teenagers stand then what next.

Jesus this is boring. Same old moaners. I believe the club were approached by a group with regard to safe standing and addressed the issue. Millions spent on an all seater stadium so they are not going to spend a few million more to put in safe standing facilities when there is no economic benefit. Unfortunately those that think they have a god given right to stand will keep bleating on about it. Personally it doesn't affect me as I sit in the WSU. Sit for most of the game and get up when it gets exciting. I also am not against those that want to stand provided you are not in the way of those behind you who might want to sit. Unfortunately it again comes down to the perception of a god given right and sod anyone behind who doesn't concur.

Bad fan. You only get up "when it gets exciting". You are one of those that dont get behind the side for 90 minutes then... I love this created "you can stand when it gets exciting" rubbish. If you are in say West stand lower which is for older fans who dont want to jump up even when it gets exciting, then you are a pain. However the North stand is the teenagers stand, so let them be and stop treating them like criminals.

Cant be bothered to read all 18 pages but my issue is that if standing is a safety issue have the same rules for every game. You cannot have zero tolerance against Huddersfield but let everyone stand in big games against Arsenal, Leeds etc. Having said that anyone getting thrown out is stupid, if a steward asks you to sit down then do it then get up a few minutes later, if you bait the stewards as some were doing you risk losing your season ticket so I have no sympathy with them.

Don't have that much sympathy, but where the North Stand boys are entitled to feel hard done by - the double standards. Away fans do what they like and stand. The stewards do nothing to stop it. Was always the case at Withdean and continues to be the case now. The club are only enforcing the regulations against the North Stand because it is easier. Not the right approach.

Unless the vast majority in the NS knew it would be more raucous, and guessed there would be more CRIMINAL standing, and therefore don't give a shit about their neighbours standing.

Not arrogance by Northstanders; just supporting in their more boisterous but harmless way, as is going on at Anfield, WHLane, Selhurst, Elland, OT, and so on. Hebberd trying to make it all so sterile.

If its that boring why post a reply......the OP was making a point about over zealous stewards and the unnecessary involvement of the police leading to the ejection of someone who can hardly be described as a spotty teenager or trouble maker.....in fact it would appear that he was ejected for foul and abusive language (which others close by say was not the case) ......perhaps stick to posts about WSU in future.....
