meh, bit silly but why should they make special arrangements for his training (i gather its normal for a search and rescue pilot to do a tour there). it doesnt actual make a slightlest difference to their claim or ours that he is there.

I think we are laying down a marker by doing this, not really sure why though

Someone, somewhere didn't think this through, and now we can't lose face and back down. Best if we'd been a little more sensitive in the first place I reckon.

Am I alone in thinking that we shouldn't own an island that is thousands of miles away from us?

I agree but that's the legacy of history and if there are people living there I think they should get the choice.

f*** the Argies!

The self-determination of the people of the Falkland Islands is that they remain subjects of Her Most Britannic Majesty.

The Argentinians couldn't afford to administer the place anyway.

Let the Tories score their cheap points with the deployment of Cambridge.

For a nation that prides itself on its diplomacy, it's a very insensitive act.

you are half right, but the people of the island want to be a dependant of the UK.

ah, thats all we need- Falklands2... this time there's no ships.

there is however a much stronger garrison, 2000 i believe, including a flight of Eurofighters anda destroyer. they wouldnt be able to walk in like they did before, when there was just 50 odd marines. ( and i dont think they have any intention of either)

I think all American borders should be redrawn. Not sure whether to use a timeline, when Texas was Mexican or Argentina was uncolonised.

Or as Argentina want, back to the day before Britain populated the Falklands. I guess going with the Argentine date would be OK, shame for them that Argentina did not exist then!!

Any rational viewpoint would show that only the Falkland Islanders should decide their own allegiances

Am I alone in thinking that we shouldn't own an island that is thousands of miles away from us?

And how about all those people with holiday homes abroad.

Am I alone in thinking that we shouldn't own a property that is hundreds or thousands of miles away from us.

We don't own the Falklands, the islanders choose to be associated with us rather than somebody else. It is their right (as is ours within our own country) to determine who rules and governs them.

At a cost of in excess of £150M every year since the war for the population of 3,000 wouldn't it be cheaper to give them each £ 500,000 and let them drive on the right ?
