Leeds - but not the dirty bit
Just done mine, too.

Lovely Scottish lady reduced my package with multiroom from 55 to 32, half price on the package (plus the normal multiroom extra).

Said I had to economise and what did I need to do to cancel, ie acted as if I didn't want to leave but needs must.

Cheers Seagullsovergrimsby for the phone number.

I've been with sky for years and generally do this annually. I finished a 6 month 50% off deal in early may. When I call I always say I'm going to need to look at all options to reduce my package as the budget can stand it. During the last call the advisor said they would give me 50% off for 6 months as I was a loyal customer and according to his records I hadn't had a deal for a very long time ( it ran out the week earlier) once upon a time if you threatened to leave they would call your bluff because they knew you had little in the way of options. Now the recession is here they are waking upnto the fact that many simply can't afford the luxury of sky and are prepared to leave. The figure that 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing. Good luck to everyone

I used the 0800 number back in March when my HD box died , I went through to cancellations and after going through the process ended up with a refurbed Amstrad box with a free service callout. 2 weeks later I found out that Sky were swapping out Thomson boxes and replacing them with brand new Amstrad boxes and escalated a complaint to the Chairman's Office but they wouldn't budge on giving me a new box as it was dependent on being able to receive Anytime+ via Sky Broadband. The policy has since been changed and customers are having Thomson boxes replaced regardless or not being connected to an unbundled telephone exchange. If you have a Thomson HD box , Sky will contact you to arrange a swap out as they want to eradicate them because they cannot support Anytime+ and in future will not send out any software upgrades over the air to remaining boxes still being used.

Yeah, got my swap out voucher sitting here. Bloody cheek though, I paid for my Thomson box and upgraded the hard drive. They ain't having that for a new one, but I will take the new one as a secondary HD box. :)

Edit: Just called them and they said I can't have the new one without giving the old one up! I paid £399 for it when they were ripping us off back in 2006. Its working perfectly and is running a 2tb drive with a further two 2tb drives on standby! They can stick the shitty Anytime+ service up their ass!

Knowing my luck they would say "ok sir no problem thats all cancelled for you as of now!!!"

just called sky, the scottish lady said " no problem sir, it will be 1 months notice, do you wish me to cancel your subscriptions," i have the full hd package broadband and phone, i said not yet as i need to sort out whats available , to which she replied " just call us back when ready to cancel and we will sort it out for you.

i think another phone call in a couple of days might be in order.

Sounds like you said you want to cancel - if you followed my advice on the last page, she wouldn't have said that.

Your call will be on your account. Just ask for retentions next time. They are all zombie robots in the call centre and work off scripts. They have an allocated amount of daily discounts to dish out. A few post on Digital SPY.

If you still have the original drive then stick that back into the Thomson. When the guy from Sky turns up to swap the box there is a chance he wont take the box and then you can still stick the 2Tb drive back in  The new Amstrad box can also benefit from a 2Tb drive. Some installers wont take the box if you say you paid full price for it and want to keep it as a spare or for just picking up the free channels when you go caravanning.

 Might give that a go. I do want to keep the old one as a backup. At the end of the day, if the guy insists on taking it, he can do one! I still have the original drive, although I think it died recently when I chucked it in during a hard drive swap out, it made a few clicking noises then sort of stopped!

The guy from Sky wont know that , another idea is to remove the box in preparation for the new box and say you've given it to a friend the day before which means he has 2 options , do the swap or cancel the job.

They offered me a good price on the bb and phone so I got straight onto BT and they knocked £20 off monthly bill to keep me. A very profitable evenings work!

Thanks for the heads up.Just got £ 15 off for 6 months. I have HD and multi-room, wanted to offer a reduction on their quoted phone and broadband prices but I am locked in with Talk Talk for another 6 months.

Thanks for this guys...just reduced my monthly payment by over 50% plus changed my line rental from BT and that's half price for 6 months as well. Also found out caller ID free with Sky. It isn't with BT.

Cheers for heads up wouldn't have bothered even trying but for this thread ;-)
