Where did I say massively extra? I said it was in lieu.

It was Gus Poyet who said he was getting massively extra :

" Albion boss Gus Poyet said: "We are getting close to a final decision.

"They are offering plenty of money and we cannot compete with that so it's difficult."

Quoted from Evening Argus 19th May 2011.

Well if 'plenty of money' means an extra £ 500 pw then I'd question the reliability of your inside sources - this sounds like a smokescreen to ensure other members of your squad don't get wind of the real figure and start talking to their own agents, looking for higher wages themselves.

It's not the wages we didn't compete with, it's the signing on fee that Palace paid him. And Gus said "cannot compete" when he actually meant "won't compete", seeing as he's had no problem spending £500k on Hoskins, £1m on Buckley and is likely to spend another mill soon enough on another top striker.

1st million pound player 1980 Kenny Sansom to Arsenal in a swap with Clive Allen from Crystal Palace. Straight swap, both players valued at £1m
1st million pound goalkeeper 1989 Nigel Martyn Bristol Rovers to Crystal Palace.

LOL That was 31 and 22 years ago respectively. Talk about playing catchup.

The thing about administration is it is down to those who run football clubs over-reaching too soon. Jordan did it and look where we ended up. No Palace fan was happy or proud about his leadership. So when we get owners in who are looking to do it the proper way, you lot accuse us of being a tinpot club and having no ambition. Yet, if we spend a penny more than you on something we are same old Palace. Sorry it goes both ways. You guys have splashed a mill. Good for you - just because you currently have a sugar daddy doesn't mean that you are not over-reaching. We had a sugar daddy in SJ for 10 years as it goes. Unless you get to the Prem, stay there and start making a profit, you too are living beyond your means. All it then takes is your owner pulling out or going under (without success being achieved) and you'll soon realise that administration is something to be avoided now (while the momentum is with you) rather than plugging a hole that usually starts opening up when the big money signings do feck all.

And for the record, during the most successful era we ever had during the late 80's and 90's, RN ran us at a profit and we still were splashing out on players every so often and were in the Prem. So to re-iterate little al's point, catch up!

I am afraid the insider is usually spot on, and even reveals the info that Palace fans would rather not hear, as well as the info we would.

But I understand that it is easier to believe every word that comes out of Poyets mouth. The most likely thing that has happened here is Murray was looking elsewhere - Poyet offered him terms that he didn't like. Palace offered him a (slightly) better deal with the 3-year contract and he accepted. Murray probably told Poyet that if he was offered £x amount he'd stay and Poyet said no.

Fair play to Poyet for that - his perception was I am not going to break the wage structure for him - but the kicker here, is to get the extra £500 p/w we were offering (plus the extra year) we didn't have to break our wage cap - and in fact given the players who have left Palace since the end of the season - not even close to breaking it.

Well done for shifting a lot of season tickets for a brand new stadium after winning the leauge and getting into a proper division for the first time in years with no teams nearby to compete with for fans.....

Once the Chelsea, Utd, Arsenal and Spurs fans living in Brighton have had their fill of a crap season in the championship seeing a team comprised largely of unknown League 1 players, they'll not renew next term....

Let's see how many you take away with you shall we?

we take more away than you do already even in a lower league. the extra people taking up season tickets arent chelsea and tottenham in brighton they are people like me who hated withdean so only went a few times a season and preferred to go away. there are thousands of people like me getting season tickets this season.

You will be lucky to finish above 16th imho.

You will be lucky to finish above 22nd in my opinion, and I honestly think that. What are the odds for Palace to win the league, 80/1 or something? The bookies don't get it wrong.

The bookies frequently get it wrong. Last season they all had M'boro as odds-on...look how that turned out.

I don't disagree with you though. Next season will be tough and I am looking for a year of mid-table obscurity. We should get that. The main difference being we seem to have realistic expectations - you guys don't. Yet.

I am glad that you guys have got your new stadium. Really I am. But until you establish yourselves in this league and then push on, don't get cocky about attendances and being a 'big' club. You've a long way to go yet.

He's costing you £1.5m plus bonuses, over the next three years.

Two of which he'll spend injured

Sought after 'Bosman' move would have commanded a £500,000 signing on fee**, plus £11,000 per week wages, plus 12.8% employers national insurance on the whole lot.

** demanded by agent, knowing no transfer fee

What a boring thread!

Murray might have cost us some money but without his goals we don't get promoted, don't shift the same amount of season tickets or merchandise, don't get the national acclaim we're getting now, don't become a serious player in the eyes of agents so don't get to sign the likes of Buckley and Hoskins.

As a footballing bit of business buying Murray was, arguably, in our top 10 best ever signings.

You are missing the point. Whatever we are paying, NONE of it goes to BHA.

Nope, true.

But not having to pay a sizable signing on fee plus an inflated salary to to the likes of Murray does leave us a little more leaway in the playing budget to get someone in who (a) wants to play for the club, and (b) is a Poyet signing, and therefore more in line with the style of play he wants to maintain at the club.

Every cloud, and all that

(and you ARE paying over the odds. He's good, but £12k a week for Murray is ridiculous).
