Spot on. And Ockenden Manor certainly earns their star. The flavours and textures on the plate are amazing. If you're after a good nosh then maybe starred places are worth avoiding but if you want to see what can really be done with good ingredients then treat yourself.

Totally agree. All the starred restaurants I have been to are an experience above just eating. One interesting theme which runs through the 6 starred places I've been to is whilst they are formal, they are never stuffy or pretentious. They are just bloody good at what they do. I'm sure there are some but I've not been to any yet. I've been to a few fancy posh restaurants where the food is nowhere near as good but the staff and the venue are right up their arses and think they're a lot better than they actually are.

Just got back from Havana Spoon in Hove. Wonderful food and pleasant, attentive but unobtrusive staff.

Good to hear this as they did have a few teething problems to start with. It was getting mixed reviews. It looks bloody nice doesnt it? I'm sure I'll try the food but I dont half fancy a G&T and a Marlboro Light on that veranda on a summer's evening.

Anyone got any recommendations for Manchester (central)? A decent 'Saturday' night place? No food we don't like and good cocktails a bonus!

Forgot about this - Mahaan Worthing, very reasonable curry.

Debate on Michelin Stars - went to the Roussillon in London a few years back paid by work as a treat for contract award which has a star or two I believe and was OK but for the actual cost I would expect quite a lot more

La Galleria - Shoreham

Whitebait starter and a very good steak so 9 out of 10.

And more importantly large brownie points as Mrs Huts favourite restaurant so perhaps a round 10.

Fishy Fishy is spot on with it's food, prices and services - go, you'll enjoy it.

Best bowl of Moules marinier ive had in town, the bread to was amazing too.
Went for set menu and food was still tremendous. A strange little venue and location, but food and services top notch.

Boho Gelato - pool valley
Not restaurant, but best ice cream I've had in a while. Loads of favours, standard ones and unusual ones like Mojito, key lime pie and chilli chocolate
My new favourite place for the summer, especially the half litre tub for £6, which is great for sharing and keeps cool for a couple of hours

Giggling Squid

Delicious 'Crying Beef' with spicy dipping sauce and nicked most of my girlfriend's Honey Duck thing as well. The pad thai came with a nice little egg-next thing, the sticky rice was stickier than when sticky the stick insect got stuck on a sticky bun. All washed down with a couple of Singhas. Overall I prefer the food in Bangkok Express (which is also alot cheaper) but there's not much in it, and GS is probably the nicer atmosphere.

Been for two great meals recently

Agua Dulce in Kings Road - great tapas, great Paella, good atmosphere and decent price - 9/10

Estias in Hampton Place - Mixed Mezze was lovely, great mains, my wife said the lamb was delicious, decent wine and good value, probably a little too quiet for a Saturday evening for my liking - 8/10

Was this the one on Church Road? I pop in there for my lunch from time to time. They do a good, cheap and quick lunch menu.

Just remembered my breakfast at Bill's a couple of weeks ago, their Eggs Royale was BOOM TING.

I normally don't bother with Bill's as i can never be bothered to queue but going there on a weekday morning when it was nice and quiet was nothing short of FANTASTIC.

Interesting. We went there on the basis that it was top rated restaurant in Brighton on trip advisor and found it distinctly average. We didn't have paella though and the tapas we had for starters were decent. Surprising that on a bank holiday monday it was virtually empty. Maybe I'll give it a second try though.
