That room is myhotel is HORRIBLE to eat in, I'm actually really annoyed that Chilli Pickle moved there because I never got to go.

BBQ Shack used to provide the nosebag at my pub last Summer.
Nice stuff and authentically cooked, but pricey for what you got.

I had my first ever Michelin star dining experience in Soho last night at L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon.

Ruddy hell its good, it was set out like a sushi bar, with the kitchen in the middle and everyone sat round watching their meals being carefully prepared.

Starter was a deconstructed fish cake I guess, but was truly amazing. Maybe the nicest thing I have ever eaten, although I am not entirely sure what ever ingredient was

Main was a vegetarian pasta dish with homemade pesto. Again, amazing flavours.

Finished off with a selection of 5 tartlets.

Waiters knew everything about every dish, very friendly and provided a great service

9/10 from me (only not a 10 because of the ridiculously over priced menu)

Best place for steak/meat in Brighton, without being ridiculously expensive? I shall endeavour to post a review post-meal..

If you want to try a Michelin Star closer to home try Ockenden Manor at Cuckfield. You can book a Sunday night special which includes dinner, overnight stay and breakfast for only £70 per head ( drinks are obviously extra ! ). The dinner was fantastic. 10/10.

michelin stars ain't worth the ratings, ive worked in 2 and 3 star, and eaten in restaurants in france that piss over both,
and aren't in any guides, dont believe the hype!!!!!!.
Same goes for the chefs, and if im not mistaken, you can only acheive 3 * if the head chef is the proprietor

I agree, a cracking place. I took my wife there for her birthday last year. It was a lovely summers evening and we started off with G&Ts on the lawn before moving inside for dinner. A very nice evening.

Not worth the ratings? The ratings are fairly simple 3 - exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey, 2 - excellent cooking, worth a detour, 1 - very good cooking in its category. I've eaten in a few 1, 2 and 3 star establishments and taking these ratings at face value I have never been disappointed. I'm sure there are many other restaurants across the world with similar, and better, quality but then I do not think the guide claims to be exhaustive or definitive. I see it's purpose as a guide to help you locate a place for some good quality cuisine and cooking in various parts of the country.

I agree there are some alleged anomalies. Marcus Waring's place is probably worth 3 stars, and the guide leans too far towards French cooking (but then the guide originated in France) but equally I feel people give it too much gravity and possibly misinterpret or misunderstand it. As an example I read some customer views about Le Farcon. The cooking is excellent and it trades on being relaxed and unstuffy. The decor has a slightly rustic look and feel to facilitate this. One reviewer complained that customers had not dressed up and another complained about the decor not being fancy. I dread to think what they would say if they went to that street food place in Hong Kong (I think) which has a star.

It's just an organisations opinion.

Out of interest which restaurants have you worked in?

this is my favourite place for this category

Foxy Grill, Brighton and Hove

It's good in there. I do have a bit of an issue with eating steak in the UK. My main reason is that there is always something more exciting on a menu...and nowhere I know does it with roquefort sauce. The fact this is the only place I've eaten steak in Britain in probably 15 years says a lot. Also, they do corned beef hash which after a FEB is the best breakfast available.

Is this the case? I believe Ashley Palmer-Watts was the head chef at The Fat Duck before moving onto Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. He was not the proprietor of The Fat Duck and it had and still has 3 stars.

Spot on. And Ockenden Manor certainly earns their star. The flavours and textures on the plate are amazing. If you're after a good nosh then maybe starred places are worth avoiding but if you want to see what can really be done with good ingredients then treat yourself.

Just got back from Havana Spoon in Hove. Wonderful food and pleasant, attentive but unobtrusive staff.
