My wife and I have 3 Basenjis. Eddie, George and Winston. Infact, George is the top ranked lure coursing Basenji in europe at the moment. These guys love to run but at home all they wanna do is curl up on the sofa and sleep. Infact, They are very much like like cats. They don't bark either, so excellent if you have neighbours. Because or their cat-like temperament they can be difficult to train. That is why they seem to come bottom, just above Afghans, as the dumbest dogs in most surveys. If you throw a ball for one of them they just look at you with a 'What did you do that for look'. They won't fetch it. Personally, I think that's a sighn of inteligence...Would you fetch a stick?

You should get a big dog so you can let you're kids ride it like a horse, Could even get a small whip to make it go faster?

Thinking about it if you get a dog for each kid you can set up a mini course and race them? Get people to bet on them and make some money. could make enough to put them down when they start crapping everywhere and still make money.

My first dog was a black cocker spaniel - got him, when I was six, as a tiny puppy. I was terrified of dogs, so my parents decided to get one that I could help bring up. Best thing ever. He was gorgeous, very huggable, fun and full of beans. Plus, he liked to eat his own poo and puke, so there was never much mess :)

Get a Whippet.

Rated as one of the top 3 dogs for families with kids.

Very clean dogs that dont need a lot of food, are free of genetic diseases that can be common in other breeds and are reasonably quiet.

Perfect pets.

Right here, right now
What I also found strange was the people, fellow dog-walkers, that only spoke to you for the first time because you had a dog. In some cases, who'd been walking past you for years. It's like a secret society, the Freemasons or something. They would the following day remember the dog's name, rank, serial number, breed etc etc, but not who you were, your wife or children. I thought that was odd.
That because you have a common interest to break the conversational ice with. I quite enjoy chatting with the other dog owners whilst taking our dog for a walk, exchanging dog training tips etc which is very useful for us as he is the first dog we have had.

Absolutely. We've got three dogs (two cocker spaniels and a toy poodle) and we've made some genuine friends with some other dog owners we've met.

The downside of having dogs is they don't live that long (especially pedigrees). Losing a dog, even though you know when you get them that they're not going to live for ever, is as heartbreaking as a losing a close relative.

Man up, at least you had dinner sorted for those evenings

Living next door to Gully
Ex Albion winger and FA Cup finalist NEIL SMILLIE had that dog.

I know because I met it. About ten times. In fact, I spent an entire summer knocking on his door, asking him for shedloads of autographs and then selling them at school.

I well remember that Sim. Remember when he kindly got "Boys in the Old Brighton Blue" signed by the whole FA Cup squad, then forgot to sign it himself! :dunce: Still got it somewhere... :clap2:

ps don't get a dog - YOU'LL end up walking it, not your kids. :shootself

If that's who I think it is, are you going to sit next to me at Falmer? It'll be just like the good old days but with the Samuels.

Marvellous.

Basenjis are hunting dogs and not retrievers hence they would get sticks as it's not in the nature. The reason they are good hunters is that they are silent, no barking hence they are very good at stalking prey. They are highly intelligent.
