The Chilli Pickle on Meeting House Lane is quality.
Curry here is dictated by Czech taste....ie people who have never really had curry before....
Have only one decent restaurant in the entire city
Ashoka in Hove is by far the best curry house I've been to anywhere in the country, and I've been to a lot of curry houses.

Raj Pavillion, London Road and Planet India as mentioned above (near Albion Hill?!?!). Have heard good things about new kid on the block Eastern Eye on London Rd but never been there myself.
I think I had the same sort of experience in a Finnish curry house.
Strangest one I went into was in Bangkok. We were nearing the end of our holiday and fancied a curry instead of Thai food so we popped into this one. It was only until we had placed our order that we fully appreciated the decor.
There were pictures of terrorists (in full dress with bazooka AK47s and suicuide belts), Yasser Arafat and slogans insulting George Bush and Dick Cheney.
It was a nice enough curry, but made very sure to say that we were from UK not USA. Even then I had an eye on the exit to make a swift getaway, just in case the kidnap squad arrived.
went to eastern eye last saturday. can confirm it is a contender. Their Dosa is an interesting variation on the norm...
fond memories of spice nutriment, although from what i remember if you want a takeaway for 7pm on saturday you usually have to have the order in for the rpeceding thursday, they take so fecking long to knock it up...
