Now they've bid for John Terry, following on from Etoo and Kaka politely declining a stint in East Mancland.

I can understand for the first few times it must be fun for the chief exec to ring up and say "We'll give you £100m for the lad" but they must realise they're just making themselves look like complete goons.

At least qualify for the UEFA cup or whatever it's called now before you start trying to entice people of this level.

Although you only have to live 40 miles east in Leeds, where it's a drier climate than Barcelona. (Manchester is the wrong side of the penines if you want to avoid rain)

I don't think man city are doing much wrong. They are going about all their deals professionally and it is the other clubs that run to the media when man city come calling.

I think they need to understand a little bit about how these things are done. Priority 1 has to be to be offering European competition. Whilst everyone goes on about how Chelsea bought their success, they were already able to offer regular Champions League football to entice the top players when Abramovic arrived.

Man City just don't seem to understand the flaw in their current business plan and need to concentrate on the next step, not where they might end up in a few years. These things take time for clubs without the previous history, and many prospective club chairmen need to take note. This is why the guy at Aston Villa seems like the most sensible amongst the foreign owners, as he seems to understand that you have to walk before you can run.

But they are trying to offer regular champions league football- buy getting in players who can push them into the top 4?
