Brighton - In your face
If, IF this happens ..... did our club already think there was a probable positive outcome here? I thought at the time the celebrations at spurs were quite surprising seeing as Chelsea were beating Forest.
Speculation.

I wonder wha the odds are for Brighton winning the Europa or conference next season, given that we’re in neither? At the moment….

We all know they’re going to get away with it somehow and end up playing in Europe. The thing that baffles me is how it got to this point before doing something about it. If we go back to the end of the 23/24 season they were all over the place telling anyone who would listen that they were qualifying for European competition and a good bet for Champions League. Surely they would of prepared for this by addressing all the entry requirements then.
The thing is, I can understand them missing the deadline of March 1st initially. They played the FA Cup QF on that date so were FAR from winning it at that point, but the moment they got into the semi-final, did they start talks with UEFA? No. If not then, the moment you get to the final, get on the phone with UEFA. Did they? No. Ok, how about straight after they won? Nope.

They won the final on THE SEVENTEENTH OF MAY and only in the last week have they started to find a solution. It's laughably amateurish.

This is exactly my viewpoint. If Palace had not even considered contingency options about this at any point since their new ownership, then they have nobody to blame. The rules are not a secret and they have been enforced several times - as Palace would know very well. It's all on them, and how little time between the final and the deadline is entirely on them.

Playing devils advocate here but Brighton got knocked out of the FA Cup on the 29th March. That's well after the deadline. Don't think TB administered his shares in USG either.

The deadline does seem too early for any club to realistically know if making such a change is really needed.

I find it quite funny that some on BBS are blaming Tony Bloom for all of this-when in reality the whole sorry mess is entirely on them, and was completly and easily avoidable

All TB has to do is sit back, like the rest of us, and quietly chuckle

Whenever they re-design their badge they should have "laughably amateurish" translated into Latin and feature it prominently under the eagle.

Something like this perhaps:

So this is actually looking like it COULD happen now. Don't want to get my hopes up though.

Can anyone describe a scenario where they can actually get out of this in time?

I love how the frequent Palace visitors to this thread have disappeared for a while as the news looks worse. I am sure they will all be man enough to release that if you can't take it, don't dish it out and won't be back to gloat when the inevitable fix is in.

Textor selling his shares VERY quickly. Given the timelines and due diligence for this sort of thing, and the need for the PL to do the fit and proper check if it is someone new, it would IMO only work it he sells his shares to one of the other existing owners. I was under the impression he'd been trying to that for a while anyway?

The issue Palace will have is that if UEFA let them in without a blind trust, all the owners who had to sell shares in their other clubs will take legal action. No way would Bloom sit down and accept it bearing in mind he had to sell his shares in USG, in time, to ensure we could play. I'm sure Villa would also be unhappy with this and the others who had to do so.

Bloom could argue by the necessity of selling his shares in USG before they won the league this year that he has incurred a significant financial loss, of which we stuck stringently by the rules. If the rules are then changed a whole legal shitstorm could occur.

Think it’s unlikely they will get kicked out BUT if they did, are we actually certain it would be us who’d get Forests conference spot?
Who else would it be? It's England's place, and there is nobody out there who would conceivably be given it ahead of us.

They'll be nil for the Europa League, we will not be in that competition next season under any circumstances

Sensing embers of hope here.

STOP IT!

This is Crystal Palace. The club that repeatedly begins every season like a pub team and somehow, generally through the appointment of a fireman manager, drags itself up to a routine 12th-placed finish.

There is huge amounts of comedy here, primarily due to huge amounts of ineptitude in Croydon.

There is neither hope nor expectation that we need to be checking our passport expiration dates.

I think I read somewhere in amongst this biblical FARCE they've muddled their way into, that Textor had offered to sell his shares to his fellow directors at 25% below market value. Maybe Textor will have to take a bigger haircut than that, something he is doubtless loathe to do. What does he care whether Palace are in Europe or not ?
