Are you frustrated that Mitoma can only play left wing? Or JP as a CB? No, because they're playing well in their preferred position. If Mitoma was playing out of position (like JP did for that one woeful exclusion at CDM) we'd cut him some slack, why not O'Riley?

Begs the question as to why he was signed in the first place when there’s such a stylistic divergence between him and the manager. All very well giving the head coach a very limited say in transfer policy but there’s absolutely zero point in signing players the manager doesn’t need/want
To be honest agree with @Terry Butcher Tribute Act on this.
Just get on and do your job, he should have the ability to play multiple positions, especially around midfield. I’ve not heard Wieffer moaning or to be fair, highlighting his preferences….
As per my earlier post, next season is a big one for MOR.

Perhaps he was signed as back up to Rutter and generally in 10 / ACM roles, as he performed at Celtic, with FH’s backing.

It's 2025, it's not Ferguson's Man United in a 4 4 2 in the 90s.
Central midfielders can't expect not to have to be flexible in this day and age.
JP can play in a 3 or a 2 btw, and Mitoma can play behind a striker or has even played up front. But that's not really the point.

As well as the injury, perhaps MOR’s been ‘unlucky’ with the progress of Gruda, Ayari and then Gomez looking the part.
With Rutter and Buonanotte too, easy to see why someone might want to move on.

If he was unhappy where he was playing? Yes, it’s not ideal
I'm pretty sure that (for example) James Milner never wanted to play at full back even when he was at Liverpool. But if it works for the club and it means the player's actually playing then everybody should just get on with it.

I expressed a POV and fine if people disagree but I am intitled to express an opinion without constantly having to justify it. 3 pages ago it was obvious you disagreed with me on the ‘brilliance’ /‘stonkiness’ of the penalty because you liked’ several posts disagreeing with me over it so I didn’t see the point of getting into it with you - the ‘lucky’ comment was deleted almost immediately because I knew you’d jump on it - alas you jumped quicker than I can write.

Milner is a consummate professional isn’t he!
It’s tougher for newbies to the Club - Buonanotte had to ‘get on with it for nearly half a season of being played as a RW when he had always said at Rosario, he was a CAM/10 but March’s longterm injury meant RDZ played him out of position in his debut season too.
It’s tough on players doing that in their first season when they are still breaking into the first team - they want to showcase their best work on the pitch in order to make progress/compete and impress the coach but feel they can’t do that if they are playing out of position so I have some sympathy with them.
That said, Matt is 24 not 19 - he should be at the peak of his career and be more professional - telling the media that he is unhappy where Hurzeler is playing him is self-justifying himself for falling short of what he needs to be doing and no one wants to hear that do they?

You’re comparing a player who was well past his prime as a winger, signed on a free transfer, is the physical embodiment of professionalism, and was being asked to fill in at a position Liverpool were desperately short in, with a much younger player, approaching his prime, signed for rather a lot of money, who’s come here as the next, bigger step in his career. Complete apples and oranges scenario.
