Karate Kid: Legends

I'm a bit of a sucker for the old Rocky format and this one delivers that kind of predictable punch in a fun 90 minutes.

I went with Oscar Jr who has never seen Karate Kid nor Cobra Kai and he enjoyed it, even without the nostalgia (karate) kick of seeing Ralph Macchio back again and some other such treats.

Decent performances by the young cast, a slightly jarring MTV style at times but worth a watch.

Oh, and if you see it at an Odeon, make sure you ask for your free Miyagi-Do headband (they really do have them). Handy for painting the fence and waxing the car at home.

BONSAI!

Watching John Wick Is Pain.

It’s a full length film all about how the franchise came together.

I did stunt and action work for 15 yrs, so this is right up my alley.

A lot the team all met on The Matrix, which I knew but didn’t knew their stunt crew and directors go back as far as The Crow and Bloodsport movies.

If you’re into stunts, this is the bomb.

The JW director, Chad Stahelski is in charge of the Highlander reboot. He’s going to smash that.

He trained with Brandon Lee and Tiger Chen. Did all the Matrix stunts. Directed all the John Wick films.
So could be something very special.

Cinema tonight to see MI: Final Reckoning. Looking forward to it but 2.5 hrs.
Sheesh!

Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning
It rates a 91 out of 100 . Amazing
Tom Cruise is a complete nutcase that stunt on the plane was all real, ok he had cables to hold him on, obviously not shown but quite incredible and at age 62
Tom seems to have bulked out for this he is a beast and for me Tom Cruise has never made a bad film. Quite frankly he is BOX OFFICE

I think he’s a quality actor and I love all the Mission Impossible movies.

It for me was great from start to finish I know Kermode said part 1 was slow but parts 2 and 3 were stunning. The submarine and flying scenes were perfection. For me it was the best of the 8 films from a pretty high bar. This is good to see like Final Destination 6 was also the best of the franchise. Refreshing

Top Gun Maverick was also insanely good and far better than Top Gun

I haven’t seen it yet, on my wish list. I didn’t really like the original, over hyped.
Top Gun Maverick is so much better. A really great film

Mission Impossible

I have enjoyed quite a few of these films. Not so much this one.

The action pieces are few and far between. So much of the plot is told through talking / exposition.

Deathly dull throwbacks to some of the earlier films. Mostly done through conversation.

I dozed off a few times.

The stunts are okay. Not great.

I like Tom Cruise and this isn’t a stinker but it’s verging on it.

Not for me.

Yeah, just didn’t do it for me. Glad I saw it at the cinema though. I’ve enjoyed the franchise as a whole.

I really enjoyed the last one. With the motorbike / train stunt.

Depressing how many movies on this thread are sequels or prequels or infinite varieties of Marvel Universe shit.
Ultimately it spells the death of cinema :bigwave:
There is that argument. But also, cinemas were on their arse 15 yrs ago.

A small independent like Worthing Dome can show a Marvel or similar and that keeps the lights on and the tills ticking over and that enables them to show more diverse films.

I don’t like Marvel or a lot of the big franchises but while they have dumbed down the content of cinema to an extent, they have also kept quite a lot of establishments running.

Or you could look at it from another perspective - if you have an interesting character/situation/concept, or a wide story, why restrict it to one long film when you could have more than one, going deeper and less superficial? Many books are part of series looking deeper into characters or storylines, and ultimately it gives more choice and less frustration along the lines of "I wish I knew what happened next" or "how did they get to this point". And you don't hear people worried about the death of fiction when a sequel comes out in popular book series.

It certainly gives choice, and I think it might make makers of one-off films more encouragement to make something compelling and different to stand out.

There's room for all, and if enough people don't like a film or series, it quickly disappears.
