Leeds - but not the dirty bit
I think the time has come for me to retire my old Suzuki Swift.

I want to go electric. I would need a car to get to Sussex and back without having to charge.
So, real world range of 220 miles

I love the look of the Kia EV3, but I don't think I can justify €36k, and a lease looks like I'd have to spend about half of that in 3 years.

So, looking second hand. Budget to around £16k?

Hyundai Kona 64kw and Kia e-niro 64kwh seem to fit the bill with about 240 miles.
Any other suggestions?
The e-Niro has a larger interior and boot and is more suitable for more than 2 people and hence the more expensive option. The Kona (I have one) is more compact and ideal for just the two of us. e-Niro 7 years warranty, Kona 5 years so anything younger still covered is a big bonus.
As you have already discovered, these are the two most suitable EVs IMO for your needs at your price point. These are the gems of the second hand market.

I need 230m round trip for home games and id3 77kwh cuts it in all conditions, 2 years and 40k miles. 300m range is possible in summer

Can anyone recommend the best app/s for finding/paying for charging points? I'm seeing a wide variety in the Apple Store, and I don't know if I should download one specifically or multiple!

Just download as and when you need one? There's a lot of companies all with their own app

This is part of the problem. I shan’t be converting anytime soon. Hybrid still way to go.

I knew and understood that the effect of the temperature on the battery was a thing - but I am astonished by the extent of it.

The range of my fully charged Audi Q4 has increased from 220 miles in January, to a very healthy 296 this week. I'll charge it fully tomorrow if its still roasting, and see if I can see the magic 300!

ICE cars are horrendously inefficient, the fact the engine need to be wrapped in a jacket of water and there’s a radiator needed as well says it all. In contrast electric motors are very efficient and generate very little heat, so any heat inside the cabin needs to generated. Also Li-On batteries just don’t seem to perform as well at low temps.

I get similar figures to you. In winter I turn on the heated seats and turn the heater down to preserve power on some long runs

When I collected our new Q4 last Friday, it had an indicated charge of 320 miles on the display. After nearly a week of ownership, and not plugging it at all (as we're waiting for the Ohme installer to visit), it's showing 260, despite me having driven 120 miles in total. The regen capability is brilliant.

Zapmap and Electroverse (which also puts payment on our Octopus account, with the RFID card).

Thank-you! I'm with Octopus, and will be switching to their Intelligent Go tariff once our charger's installed. Downloading Zapmap and Electroverse in a moment.

I have been looking at a Q4 for my Mrs. What’s your general opinion are you happy with it? I am looking at one that’s 2-3yrs old mind not brand new.

We got one about a month ago now, and love it. It's our first EV so some of it may be related to that, but the ride is smooth and nippy. It's a much bigger car inside than it looks from the outside, plenty of room in the back for our three kids.

I absolutely love it (as you can tell by my previous posts on this thread). We've moved from a hybrid Q7, as the Q4 better suits our needs (as both daughters have cars of their own).

Plus points:
  • Build quality
  • Ease of use - it's ridiculously simple
  • Driving position
  • Amount of room inside
  • Handling and comfort (even on the horribly potholed tracks which masquerade as the UK's road network)
  • Whisper quiet
  • Regeneration capability, meaning I can finish a journey with more charge than I started with
  • Connection with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is a synch

I could bore on, but I'll just go with the aforementioned highlights.

I've not found anything to dislike.

The only element that caught my eye is under the bonnet - there aren't any gas struts to hold it up, just a traditional metal retaining rod that clips down when not in use. I presume that's because the bonnet isn't anticipated to be opened as regularly when compared to a normal petrol/diesel/hybrid engine.

But you don't represent all of them, or even non-pensioners! Trust me, it's enough to put some people off. Barriers come in all shapes and sizes.
Of course I don't represent all of them - I didn't claim to, but I'm a fairly typical pensioner.

Your claim is "try this on a penshioner and you’ve lost a sale in most instances", which has now become "some".

What exactly is it that you think they can't cope with? Remembering that these are people that already drive cars, of course, and accepting that EVs aren't practical in certain circumstances.
