He's got both the physical, last ditch defending as well as being very comfortable on the ball, rarely makes a mistake these days.

Solid and reliable
Mature performance in the circumstances

Only concern is the new contract he signed was undisclosed in length.

Getting better and better with each game. What contract is he on now?

A new contract was announced on July 13 but Albion didn't specify the length of the deal. A Dutch website had reported ten days before that it would be for two years but who knows?

Big difference with Undav is he was proven at every level (moving up each time) and in his mid-20s, JPVH is fairly young, and although did quite well with Blackburn and had something to make us buy him, still has journey to make.

Undav is a loss, as RdZ indicated, but it’s refreshing to hear about a footballer who actually wants to play, rather than be a happy reserve picking up a wage.
Did 'quite well' with Blackburn? Geez!

He was their Player of the Season!

He was excellent today but it is no coincidence we have not kept a clean sheet in the Prem since Colwill left. Still a work in progress for me, but getting better.

Sorry but no.

First we don't play 'clean sheet' football.

And

B Colwill only had 3 clean sheet full games.

JP is quite something already and with the right career move next, will easily out perform Levi, a compliment to JP not a dig at Colwill.

No it’s no coincidence that we have not kept a clean sheet sheet since two superb centre midfielders left

A big this 👍.

Very little protection for the defence at times this season

So what is presumably needed in that case is a Dunk'n'Duffy in their prime type of defence - getting in the way of and blocking everything with body, face, legs, gonads or whatever, like in the Hughton era when the midfield often came out second best in the PL.

Not de Zerbi's way though, is it.
