The thought of a Sami Hyppia MK2 still haunts me though. They are not all going to be De Zerbi's.
Although true, Hyypia is also the only manager that got almost no financial backing from Bloom. Garcia inherited a good (but diminishing) squad from Poyet but we were investing less and less.

For Hyypia, we replaced these:

One would hope that Bloom won't replace Evan Ferguson this summer with Ade Akinbiyi and Dele Adebola

He's absolutely not allowed to go before I can correctly guess one of his starting line-ups

As good as RDZ is, for a club the size of Real Madrid, he would be one of many many names on their list. They can literally take their pick from most managers. I wouldn’t worry just yet.

Also, with a recent dry patch in the league & other freak results like Everton last year, im sure massive clubs like Real Madrid would look at RDZ as a good option but also as someone with a bit to prove before he gets an elite job.

To be honest I really cant see it happening. It's not as if we even look amazing in the Europa. He's way below Reals required CV imo.
I think this point is fair enough

Real Madrid aren't in the habit of appointing "up and coming" unless it's one of their own. They want proven trophy winner. At least this is what has always happened in the past. MO's change, but

I also think the financial barrier we will put up is a significant, but ok not insurmountable, hurdle. We rinsed Chelsea for £20m for Potter. The highest amount ever. What amount would make us release RDZ?

In my view, only a petrostate or hedge fund club can stump up this much for a manager in contract, in the PL. But is this Roberto's vibe?

Oh, and separately would Real Madrid consider going back to Zidane? Not in contract anywhere and won them 3 UCL's

and while Baldock and Stockdale went on to prove themselves as good signings, both struggled that season. A terrible summer in terms of recruitment

Toko just never played
Hughes struggled with fitness I seem to recall?
O'Grady tried his best but wasn't up to it
Stockdale was exposed by a cavalier defensive approach by Hyypia
No idea who Cole and Pappoe are
Holla just never got going
McCourt is a flair icon but realistically wasn't very good and presumably was signed based on his goal for Barnsley against us
Colunga just wasn't good enough
Baldock got about 2 goals or something that season but did eventually carve out a role as a very good support striker

Plus look at who we lost- Kuszczak, Lopez, Orlandi, Upson, Ulloa, Buckley were all vital parts of the team that got to the play offs two years in a row

a tough baptism of fire for an inexperienced manager in Hyypia. I imagine Bloom learnt a LOT from that summer

I think some people are overestimating just how much we can achieve with Tony Bloom being the sole owner. We have just about (almost) reached our level as a comparatively poor club in the PL.

RDZ has been saying stuff since last January that we can only go so far with the players we have and that frustration has spilled out several times in his interviews - especially around the January and summer transfer periods. I don’t think he was at all happy we sold Caceido, that must have been a gut-punch. We finished 6 last year and will probably finish 6-9 this year, we qualified for the Europa and will probably get to the knockout but we are def not going to win the League cup nor the probably Europa Cup nor the certainly the Champions League Cup without a massive injection of cash - that’s the reality IMO and RDZ knows that.

The impact of so many injuries on a comparatively shallow squad and the effort of fighting both for a top league finish and the Europa is we have to face it, an uphill battle for us as we are - without that investment in more players (and I don’t mean 17/18 year olds who will come good in 2 or 3 seasons time or 30 year olds looking for coaching positions)

Our magnificent recruitment policy and financial sustainability has taken us much further than a club might otherwise go of our size IMO and it’s been a breathtaking ride in the past few seasons but we will have to stop fantasising at some point and realise there’s a limit - maybe RDZ will have gotten us to that limit this season - there will be no reason why he would stay other than he ‘likes working here!’

RDZ is undoubtedly one of the most sought out managers in Europe with a massive rep over there - I have no doubt RM would want him.

I also have no doubt we will find a manager who can not only keep us at the level we have achieved but build on RDZ’s style of play so we are doing it better but I think a bit of realism is needed too.

Bloody hell. George Cole was past it when he was in Minder.

Somehow I don’t see Real Madrid playing gambleyball. I am not convinced that DeZerbiball is for those playing at the very top level. He is already getting rumbled by some of the not so great coaches. I think he is nearing his potential with us. I have faith that TB will know exactly what to do either way.

disagree entirely. in fact i can only see it working better when he has top quality squad depth to deal with burnouts, world class defensive midfielders to stop counter attacks and fast centre backs to compensate for the high line. we don’t have any of those things, which is why we’ve struggled at points

Get Marcelo Bielsa lined up to coach the Albion when RDZ eventually goes.
We wouldn't win anything with him and could well get relegated but it would be an entertaining ride.

I'd also have to stop reading NSC as it would cause more arguments and upset than Brexit, Palestine and the World's Toughest Creature all rolled in to one.

Failure to replace departures properly might sway RDZ as the summer was a bit of a failure

RDZ is lucky he got to work with Caicedo, Mac and a few we still have.
It didn’t hurt them working with him but they were already through the door to greatness.

I’ve been saying for a while that I predict RDZ to move on in the summer and to be replaced by (drumroll please)… Graham Potter.

Italian managers don’t tend to hang around long and Roberto said one more season. Potter left with Barber and Bloom’s blessing and still lives locally. He had us progressing, finishing in 9th and sitting in 5th. He’s unattached, knows the squad and he’s disappeared in a Curbishley’esque fashion.

Just a hunch, but I could see it happening.
