Haines, Bopara, Alsop are all good players but they arent up to it as captains. not convinced Pujara is either, on the field at least.
Batting first today is ultimately on Alsop. Stupid decision.

Only 12 of the 35 matches in Division 2 have produced positive results this year.

‘Highlights’ are up. Interesting looking pitch they are playing on and a very slow outfield.

No Alsop. Well below par first innings. Great batting conditions now. Stong Yorks batting line-up. Powder puff Crocombe rather than Shipley = draw.

To be fair, Farbrace would have been heavily involved in deciding to bat as well.
Yep, Farbrace did indeed say as much last night.
What a complete **** up (although our terrible top order batting didn’t help).

The weather looks good at Headingley so this one has gone I reckon.

The current captain, Alsop is there by default, ie who else when Pujara isn’t around? A decent batsman when he focuses on batting and a good catcher in the slips.

There’s a danger that Farbrace will do/is doing a “Salisbury”, ie trying to captain from the sides.

The players don’t respond to Alsop, don’t treat him as a leader and aren’t inspired by him…….. especially when he fields on the boundary at critical stages of matches letting, it appears Haines moves the field around.

A good skipper is hard enough to get, let alone one that won’t be called up for international cricket.

Ben Brown anyone?

How about we make a Chris Adams style appointment . Someone who is probably too good for us but is attracted by the prospect of captaincy. Tom Curran? Rory Burns ? Yes, maybe get Brown back.
It may sound ridiculous given his numbers but I‘m not sure Pujara is the answer. He’s an average tactical captain and we over rely on his runs.
The batsmen have generally matured in his absence. We muddle through , helped by FHP’s consistent form and tail wagging from Carson.
The biggest problem is bowling teams out. so Two overseas bowlers rather than one and Pujara.

Sussex rally with the ball this morning, but Yorkshire declare on 364-8 (148 lead).

Prevents Sussex from taking a third bonus bowling point. First bowling point of the season dropped by Sussex. Legitimate declaration decision though with weather conditions worsening.

Just as an aside, does anyone know why Archie Lenham hasn’t been playing for the 2nd’s for some time now. Is he injured?

Rory Burns is the Captain of Surrey isn't he? I'm not sure we've much to offer him

Good point well made 😂
Someone one of that calibre would be good though, a recent international attracted by the lure of captaincy.
It looks like they will stick with pujara anyway. That’s not the end of the world. Great batsman . We will probably keep drawing games due to not bowling sides out though.
That’s an improvement of course But We are still some way off being able to survive in division one, if we got promoted.
