I think this is the problem when people constantly berate the train service to the ground, it cannot get any better at the moment. But if people complain we don't get a good service it will only get worse. I don't see how they can get rid of the rail subsidy, as it means people simply won't be able to get the ground.
If people have to drive to and from the games the club will also be making far less money on alcohol sales.

I'd probably have to drive as I can't really justify the train prices from Chichester, that would also mean I wouldn't be spending between £10 and £20 a game on beer at games.

Good point. It highlights how too simplistic the survey is. Im also wondering how it willbe used and how we'll find out.

…..or the club is equally frustrated at the issues (poor bus service for P&R and unreliable trains), and they need data to back up further action ?
Which would be a fine theory if the survey actually asked anything about the quality of service - it doesn't.

I’d be astonished if the club were to reduce prices in the event of the travel subsidy being taken away.
As I said on a previous reply - to Bozza - I don’t expect this to happen. Some have suggested there might be a ‘premium’ that we currently pay for the current ‘free’ travel scheme. So if you remove it???

My point was made on the basis I very rarely use any of the ‘free’ schemes. I don’t use the train as I don’t want to be rammed in a carriage like cattle. I’ve never done P&R. I’ve used the bus a few times. I mainly either pay for Seagull Travel or walk/cycle 10 miles or so from Shoreham.

My main concern would be if the travel subsidy is completely removed then Southern would be under no obligation to even stop at Falmer. In fact when we had concerts at the Amex in the past they just shut Falmer Station for the day. I’m not saying this would definitely happen, and would expect a compromise from all sides regarding the travel subsidy arrangements. For example the travel zone border reducing to trains or buses being provided from Brighton and Lewes centres.

Potentially Southern and Brighton Buses may even work together to create a “Amex Transport Ticket”. One thing does seem certain and that next season will be the last with the variety of provided transport with no extra cost.

Seems a stitch up after renewal to increase cost via back door i.e. no subsidised travel. However, doubt many will demand a refund and not renew as a result.

If subsidised travel stops going through stn barriers will be utter chaos. Im shocked. Dissapointed angry club treat fans with this disrespect.
It won’t be next season so no stitch up as you say

Peoples expectations do make me smile sometimes. The sheer logistics of trying to transport maybe 15 to 20 thousand people anywhere by rail in a short space of time, is such that not everything is going to work perfectly.

There are posters on here who seem to moan at having to queue, or even if they fail to get a seat on the train!
I think people understand the logistics are difficult. I feel the complaints are more that transport is far from optimal. A few key changes could make things a lot better imho.

Queued for almost an hour getting out of Wembley the other day after the Finalissma, that has 5 high frequency tube stations nearby. Also took me 25 minutes to get out of the car park at Eastleigh, football is movement of large crowds, most football stadiums aren’t in city centres. I always wait 30 mins/45 mins and have a pint or two or three after the game as I want to have an enjoyable day, and not look at everything transport related as grey clouds, it is what it is and I have a fine day out with or without the train.
3 pints before you drive home?

So if they remove free travel zone it will add £10 every week to my spend or £190 a year to the season ticket.

Hmmmm
When they took away the bendy buses from Mill Rd p & r, thus making longer wait times, I switched to The Bridge parking. Extra £300 a year.

I’d start by withdrawing free travel from away fans and non-STH’s. Making them pay directly for travel ought to reduce what the club has to pay. I appreciate that this would have some implementation issues.
However, thousands attending Old Trafford use the tram system and have to purchase tickets.

Never crossed my mind that the Finalissma was at Wembley (probably because I wasn't interested). Saw a passing reference and just assumed it was some foreign thing.

I did the survey - and then when this became obvious I deleted my cookies and did it again - using that only text box to make a few observations.

The main one being, if they removed/charge for Park & Ride, the already far from good near-stadium parking will just become even worse. The scramble for tickets in the first place, the unpredictable access times, the shambolic post-match leaving, the lack of capacity and any alternatives etc... At the moment, we pay 6 travel 'subsidies' and buy parking at £15 a match so it is not a cheap option, but with 4-6 of us traveling together from deepest West Sussex with trains / buses not being a viable alternative, it just about works. If they upset that by putting more pressure on the limited capacity it is going to be a serious spanner in the works for us.

I've switched to using The Bridge parking, firstly during Covid, then stuck to it after the bendy buses were sold and anecdotally the travel and wait times got longer. I pay £15 a match for the two of us and sometimes give a lift home to two more. If the cost of p & r or other travel becomes more or close to £15 for two, it may add to the already mounting pressure on parking at The Bridge which many rely on for various personal reasons. The Bridge is already a booking challenge. Shame if some who rely on it get pushed out by another group being pushed in by the loss of travel subsidies. The other thing is that tickets and travel aren't just funded by the individual ticket holder. In many cases, only one household income earner may fund tickets and travel costs for up to 4 family members. Removal or adjustment of the travel subsidy may push the Albion out of reach for some family's.
