I don’t have this confirmed but I understand that Potter has a release clause in his contract but it’s a figure in excess of £10m so it’s going to cost if another club want him before his contract expires .

10 million - pocket change for Chelsea who have just spent north of 300 million in one transfer window.

I now think he's gone.

Seems to have all been lined up in the background already. Too many journos know about it.

Tbf we talked to potter while he was still at Swansea so can't be hypocrites.

It's reported as £16m, still loose change for a club like Chelsea. I don't suppose, with all the money they've spent on signings, and the compo they now need to pay Ratboy, that they're pushing any FFP limit that might make them reluctant to spend more and go for a 'free agent'?

Because without something like that Potter would seem a good fit for their 'plan' other than the CL experience, and I'm sure GP would be interested.

I sadly think he's gone. I know talks haven't begun yet but it seems that Chelsea want to talk to Potter later today & their squad is perfect for Potter's play style. Goalkeeper is a problem but Chelsea's defence + wingbacks are perfect for Potter and Cucurella of course is already there and James is a much much better player than March. They actually have a lot of similar players to us but theirs are obviously a lot better.

It's just if Potter can handle the egos of bigger players

We waited until Swansea's season was over however.

No way will he leave at the moment. Earns a very good salary, Likes owner and how club is run, Young family who have settled in area, Wife is involved in local community. Think he maybe tempted if we have another top 10 finish but have a feeling what is best for wife and family will be priority.

How many times do managers like him (i.e. not big name foreign managers) get the chance at one of the big jobs? When is the last time one turned it down?

Let's say he goes and lasts 12 months at Chelsea and it all goes wrong. He'll walk away with experience in a massive job, probably £15 million in the bank, and will be able to pick up a lower Premier League, Championship or foreign job without any difficult at all. If it goes well he'll be one of the hottest properties in Europe, with his pick of pretty much any job.

What's the alternative? Things are great at Brighton now, but less than a year ago a large proportion of our fanbase wanted him out. We will go on a bad run again at some point fairly soon, and if we lost say Trossard and MacAllister to injuries or something we could quite easily be flirting with a relegation battle - there's no reason at all why that couldn't happen. And then his chances of a top job will have gone. How much further can he actually take Brighton? A bit, but we're talking about a 7th place finish and a few European nights in a second rate European tournament. That's literally the absolute best he could realistically hope for here. Would you turn down the chance of probably the biggest job you would ever have in your career to try and achieve that? I'd be stunned if he did. He'd be mad to.

It wasn't a large proportion just a few idiots

Family wouldn’t need to relocate, that’s the worry for me

I’d like to share your optimism but he wouldn’t have to move to manage Chelsea.

I can't work out if this is serious or not. It's absolutely astonishing, if it is.

His salary will get tripled at a minimum, nothing much to lose (his stock won't fall much if he gets sacked at Chelsea), the clubs are in different worlds. They have upgrades in pretty much every position, champions league football, HUGE salary pump & a chance to really test himself at the top. It's a no brainer

Brighton factually.....
Talkshite are saying it will be Potter and the majority of Chelsea fans want him, if he goes I guess he will take the backroom staff and which players would be on his list, he knows their contract situations which is also a worry..

Today could be one of the worst days in the clubs history.....

I reckon you're right.

Also reckon that Tony and Paul have a manila folder, rolodex and playbook which are being dusted off as we speak so this isn't the absolute disaster that it could be made out to be
