Given that the concern was one of port blockades, I think sending this beast would do the frogs job for them....

On the Border
No need, Johnson got his retaliation in first by ensuring that the happier British fish are swimming in polluted waters

All the French need to do is to prevent UK /Jersey/Guernsey fishing boats landing their catch at French ports and to enforce the legal Customs checks at ports....

Mind you it's handy for the government to keep stirring the jingoism and nationalistic anti Europe message or else we might start looking at how crap Brexit is.

and presumably the French would respond with this...

Slightly older I grant you but it does have the advantage of ..........er..........fighter planes (paid for and ready for action)???

That would be spectacularly stupid of them, given Jersey's within range of land based aircraft based in both France and the UK.

The sort of blind stupidity that I wouldn't put past either government frankly.

Indeed - and as you say unfortunately we've got two spectacularly stupid and jingoistic governments in power in our respective countries at the moment so anything's possible.

Can we not just give Johnson and Macron a pedalo and a big pointy stick each and let them get on with it?

I mean, I'd like to think somebody in the respective navies would point out that sending an aircraft carrier to an island about 100miles away would be pointless and stupid.

There's always a small part of me that'd like to use these arguments as justification for finally defeating the French once and for all. We pay all this money for Trident and won't even use it to wipe France off the map*. What's the point?

*not seriously suggesting incinerating 50m French people over a few fishing boats

You are going to look very silly when Boris gives his next Press Conference.

I am, err, pleased to announce that I, er, sent the honourable Secretary for, erm, Defence off to The Entertainer (Great bunch of British lads) and he has procured a contract for £1b for 1000 planes which also camouflage in the desert. We have also stocked up on Elastic Bands from the soon Lord Theo Paphitis.

And even after they ordered them, you just know what would turn up
