Here
My person Spec for the job would be something like this:

ESSENTIAL

1. British
2. A good track record of managing in the Champioship
3. A good man manager and player motivator
4. Good and proven tactical acumen
5. Thoroughly prepares team for every game, taking account of oppositions strengths and weaknesses
6. A good communicator
7. An ego which is strong but in check
8. A touchline general
9. Very clear on the type of football he wants to play and the kind of players who can deliver the football he wants to play
10. Has the ability to get the very best from his players and knows how to create a strong unified team mentality.

DESIREABLE
1. Has got teams promoted from Championship in past
2. Experience of Managing or Asst Managing a Premier League side

Anyway - just a few thoughts

Ian Dowie, a Pompey supporter said. Is he on a wind-up?

Not Chris Hughton for me, although it would not require a tactical alteration. More of the same.

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Pulis - I hated his Stoke team, but he would certainly save us this season and get us up next. Where we go from there is up in the air, but we really can't afford to go down.

Absolutely no chance.
1.He left Palace because their budget wasn't good enough for him.
2. He asked for his £1million bonus from Palace for keeping them up, & walked out the next day.
3. He wouldn't drop down to the Championship.

One clear candiate: Paolo Di Canio

Experience as both a player and a manager at the highest (inter)national levels.
Managed a successful promotion season. In an English league.

But above all, passion.
Because that's the only thing that really matters in a manager, isn't it?

Frank psychosis, sure and a a terrible man-manager.
But you've got to concede my point about passion....

Would we have anyone left in the dressing room?

Pulis, unrealistic though he won't come here.

Bloom isn't one who appoints obvious options though so won't be surprised if we go down the obscure route, a little more difficult this time though as he has to factor in whether the incoming manager can pull us out of this mess, mid season.

I was assured scores of times here that the problem with the Finn was his lack of passion, his being undemonstrative on the touchline, and his post-game interviews.
With DiCanio, all of that is sorted at a stroke.

It could be, but stick with him and it would be The Premier League within four years. Sometimes people in football, as in life, are branded with an unfair reputation; Paolo Di Canio is one such. It's going to take a brave, perspicacious owner to bring Paolo to their club. Someday someone will be richly rewarded if they do.
I fear it won't be B&HA.

I'm all for passion but I'm not convinced that Di Canio will be able to sort our mess out! :xmas:
