Personally I love Perth, have lived here nigh on 18 years and was lucky enough to come out on a work permanent residency visa (8 years) which I converted to citizenship after 2 years.
Ironically I head for Hove on Thursday for a short work / social trip - got a ticket for Friday's game and waiting for more Watford ones to be released.
To be honest Rockingham is probably one of the worst places in/around Perth. All of the brits live up here north of the river in Quinns/Butler/Mindarie... Best place to stay would be in the city or somewhere overlooking the Swan River as our public transport is really good, meaning you could get out to all the places you would want to see.
Aunt is in rocking ham - niece in Hamilton hill? They'd be offended if we didn't stay with them I think - we will stay a week with each of them probably and then head off somewhere else x
Bet your excited - have you been to the Amex before yet then or are you an up the Amex virgin?
Lololol
swinging pig to the locals LG...does have a few nice parts and a mahoosive curry house "chutney mary's" from memory.......seats about 250.
nooooh never 'ad it up the Amex........went to the Goldstone a fair bit but left England in 86.......had a few visits to whithers on visits home usually around christmas time ..freezing ones bollox off........never saw the boys win there and the atmosphere was terrible.....can't wait for the brum game......!!!
She might mean Rockingham in WA, South of Perth and full of Brits..........
absolutely , you can live out here and afford to come home every couple of years for a month or so.......i had to work 3 jobs and save up for nearly 4 years to get out here in the 80's as i was on the "wanted"list of occupations.
that's not her in your avatar is it.. ......
Have done the very trip you are planning (except to Sunshine Coast north of Brisbane) in April 2010. Kids at time 5 and 7.
A few practical tips (as am guessing your relations/friends will point you in right direction on what to do when there):
1. Flights/stopover- would def get there/back asap, rather than stopover, partic with a 7 year old. You wont see much in a day or so and she will prob be keen to get to see her cousins! And on way back, you will prob all want to get home asap. Best spend more time in Aus!
2. Flight break point- would highly recommend Singapore. As long as you have at least 3 hours between flights you can go to the rooftop open air swimming pool of transit hotel in main terminal (dont even go through passport control). The little one (assuming she likes swimming) and you will kill for a dip/freshen up after a long flight and with another ahead. In 2010 was c£25 for the 4 of us and it included towel/shower and drink.
3. Flight duration-ours coped very well with the c24 hr journey each way. Lots of films/games/walking around cabin. It was nowhere near the nightmare we thought it would be.
4. School holidays- apart from Xmas when flights are v dear, if you want to sync holidays with your family's kids in Aus, then around Easter is best, as rest of year doesnt seem to sync.
5. As much as it is great to stay with family/friends, time alone to regroup (for them and you) and explore yourselves is also important.
Go for it!!
To those of you out there now! how difficult is it to perm residency or is it better to get sponsored!
