I think another aspect worth considering here is that pro sportspeople are always pushing boundaries regarding trying to bend or circumvent rules to gain an advantage to win in their chosen sport, and as such, might think the same mindset can be used on social media, along the lines of, 'I'll have a little chivvy along here, then delete it and see what happens...', then have a little chuckle to themselves

Quite simply, they are not allowed to mention race, religion, sexuality, disability etc. It is part of the FA laws. It's not about degree or context, it is simply a 'don't do it' issue. It really is that simple, yes?

If you are called it at work, by an employee of a company when going about your daily business, in the press etc., I should imagine you have recourse to complain and/or litigate aganst the perpertrator/company. Mustafa, I generally agree with you on this sort of stuff but, to reiterate...

He didn't 'write' anything at all.

He retweeted a 'SuperMario' (geddit) ANTI-racist meme that I've seen doing the rounds for ages (but has recently been altered).

It says, 'Don't be racist, be like Mario - He's an Italian plumber, created by Japanese people, who speaks English & looks like a Mexican'.
But it's on a purple background & someone has later photoshopped underneath, in lighter purple letters '... jumps like a black man & grabs coins like a jew'.

I'm aware Mario's not the sharpest tool in the box but this isn't someone shooting their mouth off without thinking, he's just retweeted something he liked & taken it down pretty rapidly.
To be lumping him in with twatty Whelan & scumbag Malky, as David Baddiel is doing is bizarre - there is a definite difference of intent, surely? Not to mention his background, colour & the original, Anti-racist intent of the meme
