So the police are yet again flapping their gums about stopping England hooligans going to and at the world cup in South Africa (south today tonight) Is it just me or has there been no or very little trouble for many years - maybe they should worry more about protecting the England fans in one of the most dangerous places on the planet. Having a run around on the streets of Germany or France are one thing but to think anyone is going to South Africa for a tear up is a joke.

Banning orders have sorted out a lot of the problems.

Thatchers fault

Banning orders have not completely solved the issue though, there are still plenty of trouble makers at England away games. Some of our lot have made a bit of a nuisance themseves in recent years.

no complaints really. What if measures weren't taken and there was a lot of trouble out there?

SA are only trying to put on a 'safe' football tournament which can only be a good thing

Personally I can't wait to see the pictures of englands 'finest' trying to come over hard and tough in central J'oburg and downtown Hillbrow. The reaction of the locals will be an education some hoolies may not enjoy.

One of the favourite games in Hillbrow at times is drop the fridge off the rooftop and see if you can hit the pedestrian on the pavement below. I don't like driving through there during the day anymore, I would never go drinking there again after dark.

The last time I was in Jo'burg, on business, snipers had been taking pot shots at motorists waiting at robots (traffic lights).

I'd would bloody love to see some 20 stone shaven headed chair-chucker take that lot on.

I don't know why people have this perception that all hoolies are just pussies. Fair enough he little 18 year old scrotes and pikies going round abusing the locals would shit themselves, but I've seen some scary looking mobs at england away games. In zurich I once saw some plymouth fans fighting with turks who had these massive knives and they didn't flinch, these weren't just kids causing trouble, they were all huge blokes. In bratislava I saw a forest fan walk up to a bouncer who was firing a gun at people, and punch him in the face.

That said, the hoolies never travel to WCs outside europe.

I am under no illusions about the hoolies.
I am also under no illusions about the people who used to put rubber tyres around peoples necks, fill them with petrol and then watch and dance as they burnt to death.

You punch a local in the face in hillbrow and 20 people will start shooting and some of them will be using ak47's.

Point taken.

I doubt they take kindly to any 'outsiders' in those parts.

Seriously Billy, life is VERY cheap in some parts of South Africa. It is accepted that you don't stop at traffic lights at night. If a police car tries to pull you over at night it is accepted by the police that you drive to the nearest police station and surrender to custody there instead of at the roadside.

There are REALLY cars that have flame throwers mounted under them in case of car-jacking. No, really they do exist, it's not an urban myth.

Dangerous doesn't come close to describing central johannesburg.

I was there on business about 4 years ago and at 1 in the afternoon the company I was visiting would not let me walk 300 yards to my next appointment. Thay called a limo and sent me in that.

Don't doubt that at either, however given this reality is it not then reckless of FIFA holding the world cup there?

No doubt those on this thread getting hard ons at the prospect of England's finest getting their comeuppence at the hands of the locals in South Africa will also have been eaqually pleased with the rightous justice meted out by recently freed Munir Hussain and his brother to the now brain damaged Walim Salem.

Good to see the hang em and flog em brigade out in force.

Am sorry but that is not really true. In the last couple of years there has been sod all trouble at England away games. There was a little bit around the Olympic Stadium in Berlin (but nothing really), but beyond that nothing like the trips to places like Poland 10 or so years ago.

The main news story on South today-ridiculous and they showed footage of the rioting in Euro 2000.What relevance does this have on the World Cup in South Africa?

Of course this is deemed more newsworthy than a 19-year-old woman being stabbed to death in woods in Reading and trying to find the killer.

I was in P E 4 years ago and won R75,000 (£7,000) in a casino and the Casino bosses made me have a double armed guard back to my hotel 100 yards away.
I was told that had i gone into the street i would have been shot and robbed, prompted by insiders at the casino who pick out winners, then ring the 'robbers' waiting outside.

There will definitely be football fan (probably English) deaths in S A. Only people who have been there can understand how utterly beautiful the place is, but completely under estimate how dangerous it is. If you drink outside/walk the beaches etc after dark, EXPECT to be robbed.
You see, if you are wearing trousers (£40), shirt (£30), trainers (£60), a watch £100+, £50 cash, you will be wearing/carrying 3-5 months wages worth of gear to attract the average black South African.
Most, if not all of the gangs are armed with automatic weapons and will shoot kill. The best part of being targetted by an armed robber in S A is that they will shoot you in the face without even caring.

Enjoy it (like a few of my mates) if you are going.
