I think that he said that he had a better chance than a 70 year old,but not so good as a 25 year old given that they all had the same injury.
A statement of the bleedin' obvious if ever I heard one.

It's partly in his hands due to his relatively young age, good health and strength. A trauma surgeon said this earlier today.

And you want to believe a trauma surgeon over NSC Herr Tub ?

I went skiing in Meribel once. I didn't see Michael Schumaker but I did see some rocks.

Whilst I appreciate this doesn't add much to the unfolding story, I am hoping it will be picked up by the Argus and quoted in tomorrow's edition.

I think Vegster has got a bum rap on here. He made a comment when it seemed there was no major problem. That happens all the time. As it is it has gone badly wrong but I am sure everyone is hoping he pulls through.

Stupid comments about "fighting" like he did on the track drive me nuts.
He is in the hands of the top specialists in the world.
I wouldn't be if it happened to me.Nor would most of you.
If his time is up its up.It isn't in his hands.
I hope he makes it in the same way I would for any other human being.

Absolutely. If he's unconscious, he's not 'fighting for life' or any such journalistic bollocks, except insofar as his body's natural defences are trying to make repairs. Injury and illness give the media licence to spout nonsense.

Debatable -- will history judge him to be as great as, say, JS Bach or Goethe, or as bad as say, Hitler? I suspect not.

Hitler wasn't German. But if you want to bring bad Austrians into thread go the whole hog and us Ashley Barnes as an example.

Having seen someone who had given up on life before they lost consciousness just slip away I'm not convinced that the subconscious can't have an effect on the way the body "fights" for life, or not.

Without wishing to be too downbeat, it's not just a question of whether he survives but also how much, if any, of the brain has been damaged.

*Deleted this part out as I was mistaken*

Also the fighting for life debate, I'm a firm believer that people can subconsciously fight things off, obviously he's not concious but I firmly believe if someone had a will to live, so to speak, they have more chance of pulling through.

I'm not 100% on this and I'm by no means a medical expert, but from what they've told us he had a cerebral hemmoraghe which I think is a bleed on the brain due to large pressure abnormalities in the brain, I can't search it up right now but I don't think it's likely he'll be brain damaged if he pulls through, that's obviously a big if though as it's an extremely serious.

There are some lesions on the brain which can cause brain damage. Depends on the severity of them.

"Neurosurgeon Stephan Chabardes said that a post-operative scan had shown "diffuse haemorrhagic lesions" on both sides of Schumacher's brain". Google brings up some pretty scary results for diffuse haemorrhagic lesions. :(

Ah apologies, just had a search of it and as you say brain damage is possible but his was apparently at a very early stage, the death rate for that type of bleed is 40%.

Bloody Nora I just searched the 'diffuse hemorrhagic lesions' if that is indeed what he has he is in real trouble :(

I draw comfort from the fact that the bloke in Corrie recovered OK.
