Schumaker ski injury

Not wishing ill on the chap but I wonder if I could ask?

Is going off piste a responsible thing to do with a minor? I ask as a complete novice to skiing.

Also in regard to this the way he conducted himself, and his disregard to those around him, during his career (especially the Hill incident) does make me question his responsibilities.

Apart from that I hope he makes a full recovery. Life is precious.

Echo this entirely. I am distantly related to Damon by marriage, and remember my boiling anger when Schumi took him out at Adelaide as Damon went past him just before the finish in 1994. That was the act of a desapicable desperate man, sort of a racing equivalent of the other Schumi against Battiston in 1982.

His reintroduction into F1 waqs a publicity gtimmick, and no doubt made him squillions (and revived interest in F1 marginally). Personally I don't watch F1 any more.

Perfectly worded by Martin Brundle on his twitter -

'@MBrundleF1: Come on Michael, give us one of those race stints at pure qualifying pace to win through, like you used to. You can do it.'

Hill wasn't going past Schumacher, he wasn't even level with him at any stage before or during the corner. I spoke to Hill not that long ago and he said it was his error. In my opinion all the Schumacher/Hill collisions were Hills fault, especially Silverstone.

I've always thought that too, I have met hill before(briefly) but never had the balls to ask him, although despite that, Schumacher really wasn't a nice racing driver, but that's why he was seven time world champion, look at Vettel he's not exactly a nice driver is he, win at all costs attitude is something built in to most champions.

Anyway that's not really relevant the guy is fighting for his life, what he did 20 odd years ago isn't really relevant, hoping & praying he pulls through, a childhood hero of mine, as growing up he was always the one to beat.

I was skiing off the top of the Grand Montets yesterday, heading over to the glacier des Rognon (easily accessible off piste) on my traverse along I saw 2 young children, about 10 - 12 years old with their (I presume) father. I thought it was really cool that he was taking them off piste at such a young, just got to be sensible and you should be safe.

It's not nice to see anyone hurt.....but someone who made £100m from advertising practically the most toxic companies on the planet, and then takes centre stage news over the scores who have been bombed in the past week is beyond me.

Let me join in the outpouring of grief. I have not felt this sad since Jade Goody.

Michael Schumacher embodies all that is best and all that is worst about the Germans. He was never my favourite but still a great driver. Regardless of all of that previous stuff, I hope the bloke pulls through because I'd hate to think what his 14 year-old son is going through now. What was supposed to be a fun day out has turning into a living nightmare, get well soon Schumi.

I don't think he wants to be centre stage at the moment.

Whether he wants to be, or not, the fact is he is and is getting nearly as much media saturation as Mandela used to get whilst still alive. Not wishing anything bad on him but for crying out loud, this morning on the BBC they devoted nearly 20 minutes to the blooming press conference at the hospital which is way over the top. It's not like there's nothing else going on in the world right now.

Off topic slightly, but what happens to doctor/patient confidentiality in these situations? How come its alright to brandish this about the news when he clearly can't consent?

Given the inevitable worldwide media frenzy surrounding this story, I'm sure the medical team have agreed with Schumaker's family and management team that the best way forward is to release minimal, factual details at time of their choosing in an attempt to keep lid on wild and unhelpful speculation.

Hybrid said he took centre stage. He didn't. The press gave it to him. Having a pop at the BBC ? No probs.

Stupid comments about "fighting" like he did on the track drive me nuts.
He is in the hands of the top specialists in the world.
I wouldn't be if it happened to me.Nor would most of you.
If his time is up its up.It isn't in his hands.
I hope he makes it in the same way I would for any other human being.

It's partly in his hands due to his relatively young age, good health and strength. A trauma surgeon said this earlier today.
