The good news is that if you’re an absolute charlatan, you can still sell your product to people with more money than sense.

I can’t watch Salt Bae videos without thinking (and sometimes shouting ) ‘you pretentious wanker’…….and any grown man being fed a bit of meat by him whilst dribbling down their chin and looking up at him as if he’s some kind of deity needs to take a very long hard look at themselves. The pricks.

How thick is Artera for falling for that and letting them film / release it

I literally couldn’t have phrased that better.

Been to the same but in Hamburg - assume they’re part of the same group?
They we’re part of the same group but the owner seems to fall out with his business partners so I can’t be sure what the situation is these days.

Did you like it?

Unless you have a shed load off disposable income I would imagine dinning out has become prohibitively expensive for most people with the prices that restaurants are charging.

We went to Cin Cin in Hove before xmas and a meal for 4 came to £385! A couple of weeks ago a trip to the bottom floor of Rockwater came to £170 for 2 adults and 2 children and no starters!

I suspect with ever rising staffing costs, rents and costs of ingredients it must be incredibly difficult to balance charging enough to make a profit and not too much that it turns people away, however when OK (not amazing) restaurants are charging those sorts of prices its not surprising that some are closing.
It’s brutal out there. There’s a couple of places I have been going to regularly for years and they’re a good barometer; I have really noticed the prices increase. I reckon they’ve crept up at least 50% over the past 2 years. I also know a couple who closed a place because of the tough economic environment. They said they couldn’t charge the true price for the food, and to sell it cheaper they would need to stay open every hour of the day and work every hour they could; the effort wasn’t worth the reward.

Was about 10 years ago now but fairly sure it hit the spot from memory! On a related note Burgermeister in Kreuzberg was always a favourite burger place from my travels to Germany.

It must have been about 10 years ago I went there as well.

Was that Burgermeister the one in Schlesisches Tor, in a former public toilet under a rail track? That’s the original. It has expanded and now has multiple outlets across the city. They’re my takeaway burger joint of choice; The Bird is more a restaurant.

I went to limes bistro up in Lindfield recently - really nice Thai food, better than your normal Thai.

There was two parts to the restaurant, the front by the window was well lit and a bit quiet and dull (I know!), we were at the back where it felt had much more atmosphere.

You could tell a couple of the serving staff were still learning but that was fine.

Just looking back over some menus I have found on line and my usual burger has gone from €14 to €19 over the past 4 years.

That’s the one, yeah - only ever went to the one under the U-bahn stop, normally very late.

Tried the soft launch of ‘Forest Row’ in Worthing. Food court in the old Beales department store.

First of all - there’s a weird ‘orange’ light throughout which feels a bit odd. It’s also cold (at the moment) and very wooden.

Was only 3 food places open (but 2 were shut) - 1 wine bar, 1 normal bar.

We ordered from the ‘Beef Guy’ who previously had a food truck opposite TK Maxx. Also available was a fish and chip place and Jamaican Jerk.

Burgers were big, a bit too much fat coming off them for my liking but well cooked. Double cooked chips were nice but the seasoning was a bit paprika heavy for my liking.

Overall it was ‘OK’ - the staff are all very young and seem inexperienced. They need to improve the decor and ambience a bit - look at places like Shelter Hall, Market Halls in London or somewhere like Yalm Food Hall in Norwich which is another converted department store which are all a lot better.

We went to Petisco in Oxford St last night. It is run by a couple who used to have a Portuguese restaurant opposite St Peters Church. By day (closed Sunday / Monday) its a cafe / restaurant and on Saturday nights they open until 11.

If you like Portuguese food, this is the place to head for - all handmade by one person (Dina) so it's a small menu. But they are classic dishes, superbly executed. We had olives, petinga, bacalhau fritters, choriço, caldo verde soup and 2 bacalhau en bras. Not much for veggies but if you ring ahead (recommended as it only seats about 12 people in the back room) you should be OK. £80 for 3 people.

BYO and corkage was £5 / bottle.

I had an excellent lunch at the Mexican at the Open Market

3 Chicken Mole Tacos, some rice and beans and a Mexican cola for £15 I think. Very good and The Open Market is a really good place for excellent and cheap lunches with this and Kouzina
And Smorls and the Korean place next to it. The whole London Road area is getting much better for food. There's also a good noodle place near where Iceland was (Noodle King?). I suppose its a result of the student housing and the North Laine getting too poncified.

Mrs GB just got herself a new job so we broke our eating out ban last night to celebrate, by popping in to The Urchin.

Got the last walk in table and had a superb and good value (which, yes, is different to 'cheap') meal. Soft shell crab to start for me which is their best dish IMO, incredible balance of flavour and texture, followed by moules / frites - hard to f*** up but theirs are excellent. Mrs had squid followed by the spicy prawns which were reportedly excellent. Shared a cheese plate afterwards, always a triumph of shopping but exactly the ones I would have bought. Great service, good booze (an aperitif and shared a bottle of Albarino). Bill was £150 ish, not cheap for sure but better than the quoted bill for Rockwater with no starters earlier in this thread.

The place was full on a Tuesday night. The above is why.

Just far enough away from LDC
A couple of weekends ago tried The Permit Room on Brighton (part of the Dishoom restaurant group).

Surprisingly spacious. We were there for lunch and it was superb. Decent value and great for vegetarians. Cocktails were decent but some were a little small.

We tried the samosas, chilli fries, ragda patice (two lentil patties topped with tangy curry) as well as a cauliflower curry and a jackfruit pilaf

Had a look at their breakfast menu and will try than another time.
