Any club back in the premiership for the first time will get masses of season ticket holders if only for teh reason they want to see the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea Arsenal and Liverpool.

I'm afraid it's not a fair representation of how popular a club is these days it's just the only was the fairweather fans with a bit of cash can guarantee the will see the premierships big boys.

Maybe these clubs like Leeds, Reading and Palace should have a big end of season tournament - a bit like the play-offs - to determine who has the most wankers. They could call it a big WANK-OFF.

I'm going to phone Norris McWhirter to check, because that must be the world record for the largest number of wankers in one place at the same time.
Havent you forgotten about Old Trafford ?

Man Utd had just confirmed that they have 64,000 season ticket holders for next season. I think the capacity will be 76,500 now that the new corner stands are open.

I hate the club, but that is pretty impressive!

I'll tell you what is impressive, the waiting list for a season ticket at Barcelona. That's what.

Edit: I'm not even sure that you can get one unless someone in your family DIES.

A few points to note:

Last season was the first season Reading ever achieved an average gate over 20000, a feat the Albion have achieved 5 times. In fact prior to moving grounds Reading never managed to average over 16000.

Albion achieved higher average gates than Reading for 42 consecutive seasons from 1951/52 until 1993/94.

Since then Reading have enjoyed higher averages in every season. The fact that this period coincides with Brighton flirting with bankruptcy, relegation from the league, homelessness etc etc and Reading enjoying massive investment, a new stadium and the most successful season in their history is not coincidental.

Historically there is no reason to suppose that Brighton would not have support equal to Reading's in the same circumstances. In fact history suggests it would be higher.

And yes, I know I'm a nerd!

I think you'll find it's Chelsea. Brighton & Palace are both a long way behind the blue subhumans from West London.

Come to think of it, there's another big bunch of wankers right there. And like Reading, they're a bunch of Johnny Come Lately's. 7,300 for Southampton in the Premiership in 1992 I do believe...

At least its a bandwagon that you can see the atraction of jumping on.

No, there are no bigger set of Wankers than fans who follow a club with no history, have won nothing and have contributed NOTHING to professional football since their inception, but STILL think they are better than everyone else.

As Honda say, hate is a good thing.

Fraid that you will never have 18,000 season ticket holders. Not a reflection on the club or its support its just that the population in the cactchment area just isn't enough.

Reading have all of the Thames Valley to draw upon.

Nerd or not, great post.

No nerd.
Some simple research and a cut and paste .... to highlight Reading's lack of history through the decades.

Can only think of them being ever able to beat some significant teams when they had Jimmy Quinn, and without the-disposal-of-Autotrader-proceeds, they would have stayed a TINY club.
