Although the only one really not at fault was the actual ref. He went with the linesman's decision (which he should do for offside's) and was then told that the decision was correct by VAR.

The palace one wasn't subjective. It was an offside decision, given incorrectly because the VAR officials didn't notice the palace defender in the middle of the screen.
And my question still stands, was there this much noise over that Palace decision? It was equally, if not more, incompetent.

No argument from me. I only meant that the VAR in the Palace game subjectively drew the lines in the wrong place, because it isn’t science. He made a mistake based on where he thought the lines should go. Yesterday’s was different in that VAR didn’t know what he was checking. Seems he thought he was confirming it was onside whereas the ref thought he was confirming it was offside. That’s a new one and not a Liverpool conspiracy.

So that's Spurs 3 points better of last season and 3 points better off this, then. I wonder how VAR will get them 3 extra points next season.
Ref/VAR forever inventing new ways of being completely wrong on key decisions. This season seems the same old despite the recent appointment of Howard Webb. So many errors already, off the top of my head the Manure goalie not being sent off for assault on a Wolves player in August, Newcastle’s blatant handball for their opener at Sheffield United, MacAllister’s sending off at Anfield.
But VAR is just refs in a room looking at a screen. The problem is referees full stop.
Yes, yesterday highlighted critical and basic issues:
. They are allowed to earn extra money and arrive tired and jet lagged for the supposed best league in the world job
. They didn't communicate effectively with the ref
It's just ridiculous. And I'm sure they'll still be paid even though stood down for a game or whatever.
Most professions if you were that incompetent in such a high profile way you’d expect to sacked.

Arsenal v Brentford had some offside VAR controversy on the same day/ko time, so Arteta making a fuss rather overshadowed the Palace decision. Then West Ham v Chelsea became the next VAR talking point... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64612850
This season hasn't finished yet - they may get plenty more before it does.

A Liverpool statement issued on Sunday evening read: "Liverpool Football Club acknowledges PGMOL's admission of their failures last night. It is clear that the correct application of the laws of the game did not occur, resulting in sporting integrity being undermined.
"We fully accept the pressures that match officials work under but these pressures are supposed to be alleviated, not exacerbated, by the existence and implementation of VAR.
"It is therefore unsatisfactory that sufficient time was not afforded to allow the correct decision to be made and that there was no subsequent intervention.
"That such failings have already been categorised as "significant human error" is also unacceptable. Any and all outcomes should be established only by the review and with full transparency.
"This is vital for the reliability of future decision making as it applies to all clubs with learnings being used to make improvements to processes in order to ensure this kind of situation cannot occur again.

Good. VAR/Officiating improving benefits us all. Clubs are the only ones who can realistically put pressure on PGMOL to make them fix their issues.

I didn’t watch all the Liverpool Spurs one but understand there were a couple of mistakes - maybe one mistake. Liverpool issue a statement above etc. Brighton got by far the worst decisions last season - one in a derby the same as Liverpool. They didn’t get anywhere near the attention and uproar of this one. Funny that…?
