Poyet close to new deal
Brighton boss rejects Swansea talk

Gus Poyet has declared that he is poised to sign a fresh long-term contract with Brighton, making it 'practically impossible' for him to go to Swansea.

The Uruguayan was a contender for the Swans position a year ago before the Welsh club opted for Paulo Sousa.

Sousa left Swansea on Monday to hold talks with Leicester about replacing Nigel Pearson at the Walkers Stadium.

Poyet has therefore been linked with the Swansea post once again but he insists he is happy at Brighton and set to commit his future to the League One club.

Speaking about Swansea, Poyet said: "I would say it is practically impossible. I am very close to signing a four-year deal here and everything is agreed."

And in the archives...

Poyet, meanwhile, remains on the verge of committing his future to the club for the next four years.

“We are very close,” he said. “The players are the key, so maybe we haven’t really paid too much attention to it, but there is nothing that is going to complicate things.”

Gus Poyet arrived back in England yesterday admitting he is eager to sign his new contract.

But the Albion manager insisted fans should not worry about him leaving before putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.

Tony Bloom wants Gus Poyet to launch a new era of stability by signing the long-term contract on offer at Albion.

The Seagulls chairman is close to agreeing a four-year deal with boss Poyet and expects assistant Mauricio Taricco to stay too.
