Bloody Worthing!
Spent hours with the Ireland Parkrun map today checking which Parkruns had the slowest winners in areas where we will be campervanning for a month in September.
Managed to plan a route where I had a good chance of top 3 places in a number of runs over on the wild and beautiful West Coast.
Then I came across a Twitter feed saying that only Junior Parkruns have started in Eire and that there is no plan for the adult Parkrun to start anytime soon. Shame as great meeting different Parkrun groups and winning.

So the guys who organise the ROI Parkuns must have got my little note then.....................

Seriously, that's a choker. But have a look at this link...........

You have nowt to fear from me. Thanks for the link. Nothing suitable yet. I’m not going over 10k and I need scenery. The nearest is Co. Mayo 10k but seems to be road based in town. I’ll refresh the link in a few weeks.
The other option is to drive over the border one morning to the Enniskillen Parkrun, the town of Arlene Foster.

Tunbridge Wells for me today. Very attractive course to look at but not quite so attractive to run. 2 laps of a country park, undulating (with a spiteful little hill up to the finish) and bumpy. Not one to do when it's wet as it cuts up badly, I've heard.

Anyway 22.24, which was about right given the course (I predicted 22.30). An AG of 75.60% which was the best in the field of 220 or so. A good way to celebrate my 200th P.Run.

I made a return to my doorstep Parkrun after 25 months away from Hove Prom. Rib manageable and calf ok. Have now gone into double figures for weekly mileage for the first time in ages.
After a mile found myself just behind the machine and Katie Wright my Withdean coach. Wasn’t there for full effort but this was a good opportunity. I went in front of the coach and then had the machine in sight to catch and her to hold off.
Got to the run in and had no finish but stayed in sandwich filler position. 21:14 was 13 seconds behind the machine.

73rd place is probably my lowest Parkrun finish with a fairly good run. Well done Hove 🏃*♀️ 🏃*♂️

Newtown parkrun in Wales for me this morning. Nice run - two out and backs alongside the River Severn. Going to return tomorrow for my LSR.

SB for me 21:28 AG 71.58% and finished a pleasing 14th out of 138.

Very respectable. Is this your last PR before Ireland?

Yesterday I was listening to views, including the machine PG, on over 50 women's Age Grades first brought up on here by soistes
At Arena there are numerous average female runners achieving AGs well into the 80%s. The calcualtion for male and female is based on:
The calculation uses data collated by the World Association of Veteran Athletics, to adjust your performance for age and sex. It takes World Record performances for each age and disatance, for men and women, and uses these as benchmarks. So, for example: if the World Record for a 40 year old man running 10 miles is 46:31 and another 40 year old man runs 10 miles in 58:30, he has an Age-Graded performance of 79.5% (46:31 divided by 58:30)

Being a geek I put in some figures into this calculator https://www.goodrunguide.co.uk/AgeG...eld=00&Secs=1260&Age=32&Sex=M&RunType=&RunID=
I found that the difference between a man and woman both running 21" 5k at 32 years old is 8% (61% to 69%) but at 64 years old the Percentage difference is 20% (77% to 97%).

SO women are not getting fast world records as they age. No idea why. Chris Naylor gaining the highest female AG at Hove Prom Parkrun last week with 93.79% age grade for a 22:17 prompted our "all male" whispered conversation.

From the basis of my investigation I have decided to suspend for the foreseeable future any NSC female runners from joining the table.

Funnily enough I had a similar - but less statistically robust! - chat with a mate, who was amazed that the time margin that he had over his sister (same age cat) only translated to a tiny (really tiny) margin in terms of age grade. He thought that maybe there was some sort of feminist plot afoot. If there is, then I'm certain its epi-centre is located somewhere around the Arena 80 HQ and thus it's up to you to face down these women, tell them what's what and give the what for. I'll book a bed for you in A&E in preparation for the outcome......(By the way, Mrs GNT who has recently crossed the Rubicon of 60% would like a word.)

Update…Geraldine Moffat broke the record at Hove Prom yesterday with 94.26%. Presumably Chris Taylor is gutted at only holding the record for a week! Shades of Coe/Ovett here!

And at Bognor, of the first 6 runners on age grade, 4 of them were VW65-69 and one was VW60-64. That's highly unusual to have one category providing 4 of the first 6.

First run on land for 4 months today. Been on a ship without getting off, so been using treadmill, thought I was doing ok.
I was absolutely blowing out of my hoop; only did 5.5k. 28 mins. Maybe a little jet lag, but very disappointed.
Need to get cracking if I want that sub 50 in the Brighton 10k.

The calculation is based on the world record for every age and sex every year. WR time divided by ones performance. That is rubbish as it's the Howard Grubb calculator from 2015 that is used.
Maybe women over 60 have been smashing the world records over the last 6 years and the calculator doesn't reflect this?? The AG% is certainly not showing improvement through new bouncy shoes whilst the world records are historic from 2015 (Guilty your honour).

Well done to Mrs GNT regardless of our enquiry. A benchmark is a benchmark as you 80%ers know.

Ah, perhaps that explains it.:clap2: Perhaps all world records need to be written as either BBS (Before Bouncy Shoes) or SBS (Since Bouncy Shoes). And the Grubb calculator could be remodelled so as to require you to tick either box. (PS I'd cheat.)

Treadmills are notoriously flattering (but there and again rowing machines and exercise bikes are even more so). Do you do the old 1% incline thing - back in the day that was regarded as the equivalent to a run 'outside', but I think it was still a tad generous. Good luck with the training on terra firma.

Yes I was doing that, plus even a few fartlek sessions. I suppose hitting 60 is slowing me down a bit, but I think sub 50 is quite achievable.

It is achievable. Race day will make you faster. You need to hit the training a bit this week and allow time to have the week before a lot easier.
Don't do what I did at the Phoenix 10k this year and go off too fast and die at 4k. Take the first 5k as very, very controlled steady and then gradually see what you have to offer through the next 5k.
Good luck and enjoy it.

I have some Currys vouchers that are part of our rewards system at work that I need to use up and want some advice on running watches. Money not really an object as have loads of vouchers. I run 3 times a week. Average park runner (around 23 mins). Run 10Ks and half marathons occasionally (anyone doing Barns Green this year). Any thoughts appreciated.
