Out of interest what's your thinking behind "good.....to grow?" What do you want it to be, and why?

we drink copious amounts of lager in the UK, far more than ale i believe, yet they are all foreign brands and all using foreign hops. one barrier to getting more onto ale is the different hop pallete between germanic lagers and English ales (and you know i have nothing against german lager) it would be good to go into a ordinary provincial pub and have Meantime on, that needs a brewer to grow.

I tried the Bison APA yesterday in The Wick- pretty good. I know their shop is on East Street- anyone know if they are they brewing there or off site?

What that article conveniently fails to mention is that Nick Miller - Chief Exec of Meantime - used to work for none other than SAB Miller before moving to Meantime.

If you were being cynical, you could suggest that this takeover has been brewing for some time....

This probably explains his dismissive comments about craft then.

I see your point. Personally I prefer the German model; Warsteiner is the biggest domestic supplier yet only has 3% of the market. Lots of choice and regional variety.

Obviously Brewdog Camden. The Southampton Arms is very good. Camden Town Brewery, the brewery has a tap room which is open regular pub hours http://www.camdentownbrewery.com. Not sure how you are getting to Camden but if you go via Euston and have time there is an excellent bar outside the front called The Euston Tap; has a fantastic range of craft.

No problem. Camden Town Brewery is a bit off the beaten track but they have outside seating and it's a delightful place.

I can second the Southampton Arms. Excellent place, very hard to tell yourself it's time to leave, also inexpensive for north London. Tapping the Admiral is another fantastic backstreet pub in Camden and very close indeed to the Camden Town Brewery bar, so much so that it's rude not to visit both. I can vouch for their pies too, they are huge with loads of mash and very tasty.
