Get the players to run around a field instead of using a plough. That'll earn us a bob or two!

So it's proposed to meet the 'elite' grade of the new grading scale for academies

After an extensive search and detailed appraisal process, Brighton & Hove Albion have selected a preferred site for their new training ground.

A proposal to build the new state-of-the-art facility at New Monks Farm was discussed at the strategic policy meeting of Adur District Council tonight and the plans were welcomed by the council members.

The site - located in Lancing to the west of Shoreham Airport, and adjacent to a new golf course currently under construction - is owned by Adur and allocated for the provision of new playing fields with supporting accommodation, and although these facilities have yet to be built, the club will assist Adur District Council in providing an alternative location in the district.

Albion's plans include training facilities for the club's senior professionals and a new youth development academy which meet the stringent criteria being proposed by the Premier League under their Elite Player Performance plans currently being discussed with the Football League and other football authorities.

The proposals include a training complex building including an indoor pitch and facilities for players and staff, eight pitches - including one which will be the same size as the pitch at the American Express Community Stadium - a 3G astroturf pitch, training grids and some residential accommodation for players and young people attending residential courses at the new training ground.

Albion chief executive Martin Perry commented, "We have been searching for a site to house a state-of-the-art training facility and youth academy, and the site at New Monks Farm is ideal.

"It is located near to the A27, which means it is within easy reach of the Amex Stadium.

"We have had some initial discussions with Adur District Council and are absolutely delighted at the positive response we have received from Members and their officers.

"They have been extremely supportive of the scheme and like the idea of having the Albion in their district - so we are extremely hopeful of a positive outcome when it comes to the planning stage."

Perry confirmed that the development of the site is subject to a satisfactory outcome of a planning application which is hoped will be submitted by the end of the year and reaching an agreement with Adur for the use of the land.

Adur DC leader Neil Parkin said, "We were both surprised and delighted when Brighton and Hove Albion approached us to see if they could use our site allocated for playing fields at New Monks Farm in Lancing.

"This would really help to put Adur on the map and give us a great opportunity to regenerate this area for the benefit of the whole district."

The building site area at the top is for a golf course I think must be in the area nearer the railway line to south of this picture. Live 10 minutes walk from here so chuffed.
