Is that not in the no.parking zone? Does anyone know where the no parking zone starts/ends? Is there a map somewhere? How does anyone know where you can/t park?

Train drivers … I disagree. £60k the median pay and they’ve had above inflation increases over the last couple of decades. An entitlement that their pay must always equal or exceed general inflation in every single year. Shirley there are swings and turntables.

My sympathies are with RMT staff on rubbish pay such as cleaners or those dealing with violent passengers.
Yep. I’m all for lower paid workers being treated more fairly. No one in this country should be struggling to be housed, eat and be comfortable. They’re basic human rights.

I’ve no time at all for any office workers, drivers or senior engineers on strike.

The zone ends at The Avenue/The Highway. However, it’s a good 30 minute walk from the Stadium to there. Alright on a nice day. That’s if you can find somewhere to park without getting too far into Bevendean. Or else it’s a long walk!

“Up the workers” slogans require closer analysis. Due to the specialised closed shop of the role, train and tube drivers have always held great power, train drivers brought BR to a halt in the 70’s and 80’s. In the same way that French air traffic controllers strike each school summer holidays. Drivers as jobs go are looked after.

Most Junior doctors earn far, far less for a much longer week. Another far more worthy cause.

Come on be sensible- Saturday wasn’t the strikers, it was trespassers - sometimes things go wrong, suck it up and think on your feet.

I had a pint after the match and saw the queue, walked to the bus stop and saw the queue, walked to the uni and got a Uber (more that I’d of liked to have paid)

After opening 4-1 what should have been 3-0 I don’t really care.

I knew strikers might make it hard so I go there really early, problem solved.
Far too rational, not quite sure what southern are meant to do about Trespassers. Before the game they actually managed to find extra drivers to run the full 6 trains an hour service, but that doesn’t fit the moaning narrative on here.

While you are saying the office workers are “well paid”. I can tell you 100% that a lot of the office workers are on less than engineers, some platform staff and most onboard staff.

Re the train people in unions demanding inflation pay rises - this is what everyone should expect, it isn’t the members of the unions fault because you haven’t organised yourselves!

The issue is the government not doing the right thing.

And im thinking before the matches conclude, the b@stards are taking it in turns striking to spread the distruption. Hopefully their funds run out soon.
Just wondering what amazing job you do, where you have to deal with people calling you bastards all the time? Getting spat at, people being violent to you, but don’t worry Mr. Mile Oak can’t get to the football. These “bastards” are just normal people who have a job, probably sit near you at the Amex, so maybe have some respect for your fellow man.

I believe so, the person at Brighton station said it was attempted suicide, so should be happy really that nobody decided to plow through them.

Believe there was also an incident with our Bedfordshire friends on a train (but that is just a mate telling me)

Median pay seems pretty good for train staff

Rail travel assistants including ticket collectors, and guards – £33,310
Rail construction and maintenance workers – £34,998
Rail transport workers including signallers and drivers’ assistants – £48,750
Train and tram drivers – £59,189
Rail and rolling stock builders and repairers – £46,753

Great OT as well I hear.

And most private sector companies dont have great inflation busting raises either ! 50% got less than 5% last year.

My sympathy and most other people's is wearing thin.

Look at this ..... UK train drivers highest paid in Europe FFS

Maybe people in the private sector (which apparently the railways is meant to be) should get a better union then?

I agree those are good wages, but they’re only good due to a strong union. A lot of these strikes, are not due to pay, but job losses and changes to T&Cs. The railway is a mess, and even they get a pay rise, most of the problems will remain until the government invest. But everyone needs the union boogeyman to blame for trains not to work.

The blame here lies with the government (and that’s from someone who doesn’t think Drivers should necessarily have a pay rise!). All operators who do not fall under the remit of the Rail Delivery group, like Open Access, Scotrail, TfW, TfL have come to an agreement, the Department for Transport and RDG are obstructive to the whole process.

Whenever I'm stuck on a late-running train or a delayed plane, I remind myself that the driver, pilots and flight crew just want to get to the destination too. Doesn't make the situation any better, but there's absolutely nothing to be gained by frothing at the mouth and ranting at the workers*.
