wel TID if you feel that strongly can i suggest that you need to keep these opinions also off of the threads and you need to contact the club about that, no your not throwing insults as some have but it is directed at the girls in the same way and in my opinion (as you have had yours) i think it is inapropriate so please can you send your thoughts to the club if it is bothering you that much.. this thread was opened by someone who was saying that they enjoyed the dance so lets just leave it to what it was inteded please people, if you all want to have a debate about strippers and "feminist issues" etc can we do it in a seperate thread so that my girls are dragged into it.

im not trying to argue with anyone or say one person is right but its getting all too out of hand so if we wanna debate about it please can we move it away from here.. thats all i ask

i've got absolutely nothing against you personally, and i don't mean to be offensive, but you can't have your cake and eat it. if there is a thread about gully's girls, and i feel inclined, i'm going to offer my opinion about it. this is a message board after all. but i'd never say anything personal about any of you.

i shan't be writing to the club as i am under no illusion that i am in anything other than a tiny minority.

i appreciate peoples opinions and on some level understand where your coming from.. i dont mind reading these things.. the only thing i worry is because my girls go on here and search "GULLY GIRLS" and i would hate it for them to see things like this thats all.. we can have these discussions but just aslong as wel try and not use the name.. Gullys girls have quite a large following of young girls who follow us... most of which who are very young because of our community work and i fear that when they type gullys girls into google this might pop up.. thats all i just dont want them to have to see it.

Your opinions may relate to the more americanised cheerleading of using stunning models showing lots of flesh but gully's girls are purely about fun and entertainment for the kids surely? It's much more innocent. No real undertones of sex regardless what thoughts are in the minds of the men who have been watching too much porn on the internet and listening to the tabloid press.

i'm afraid it's differing degrees on the same scale. at one end of the scale you have prostitution, and on the other you have, i don't know...women wearing lipstick. some militant feminists would argue that even someting as trivial as that should be opposed. personally, i think wearing lipstick should be allowed (i know, big man), but strip dancing shouldn't. the line is drawn somewhere between the two. whether provocative cheerleading is one side or the other is for society to decide. hence this debate.

I think that TiD's comments say rather more about him than anything else.

I've only read this page of the thread and I've never seen GG perform.

It's just a form of dance, dancing by it's nature is an expression of emotion which usually has sex in there somewhere - it's human nature. That said what GG do is about as harless and familyfriendly as it gets.

A few years ago someone decided the lombada was a bit too raunchy...

For what it's worth both my 7 year old and my 4 year old love Gullys Girls ( OK, so do I ! ) so keep up the good work.

i'm not sure how that is 'jumping to conclusions'. t's a conclusion that can be drawn to any display like this. there is a strong correlation between the prevalence of strip clubs and the levels of domestic violence. this is unsurprising. if women are viewed as objects (as they are in strip clubs), attitudes of violence toward them can be more easily tolerated. now, what you do obviously isn't stripping, but it's the thin end of the same wedge. if you were engaging in only an artful performance you wouldn't wear short skirts.



by the same token, get in a black and white minstrel troupe for half time to appeal to our more 'traditional' supporters. i'm afraid that argument doesn't work.

fine. then do what everyone else does to 'support' the club and turn up to games, buy the shirts, etc. etc. your argument would have more credence if there were any boys parading in your group. but as has been said, no-one wants to see that.

You're very naive you you think men will ever stop seeing women as "objects of desire". It doesn't matter how much "equality" campaigners try and sanitise society one thing will remain - sex makes the world go round.

From my experiences there are plenty of women that see men as sexual objects. There are also male prostitutes. Just as long as all parties are adult and in agreement do-gooders should keep their noses out.

The exception of course being when someone ( male or female ) is forced into prostitution for whatever reason.

No i think she's done that. But that's totally seperate from gully's girls isn't it? that's her own modelling career in which to my knowledge she in no way attaches to the albion games.

In my own opinion, if a girl wants to use her body to make money in whatever capacity who are the bigger mugs them or us pervs? Yes i know there's a forced sex workers industry so i'm not being naive.

I would like say thank you to them. Not only have they helped during REMF, they do lot of work with Albion in the community all round Sussex during the week.

On Saturday it was m birthday, they let me choose the song for them to dance to, they now hate that song but did a marvellous job dancing to it in the rain and making up new moves.

A couple of them even came out to join the birthday celebrations and made an old boy very happy and some younger ones too

Thats fair enough.. there always is.. especially these days a thin line between all of that.. but with quite alot of us girls at Gullys girls, if i could play football then i absolutly would but its just something i have never been good at.. where as dancing is, pretty much all of us at GG are massive Brighton fans so to have the honour of supporting my team in a way in which i can is great.. I can see your point, but like i said i teach everyday in schools and teach cheerleading under the club name... we focus mainly on getting behind the team and we have boys and girls in our classes who are equally as good as each other.. its a chance for those fans that arnt into playing football but love the team to get involved differently.

I was asked a few days ago my opinion about other styles of cheerleaders for example the owlettes etc.. as much as i applaud them for having the self confidence to do things that way us at gullys girls strive to keep what we do as something that is appropriate for a family surrounding, which i why i do not like it when peopel suggest that we are ruining the work that woman did to fight for our rights before us. Yes we were skirts and act like girly girls but dosnt mean that we dont appreciate what these woman did. I am not suggesting that we are not aware that gullys girls plays to a large male audience but please do not take us on face value and stereotype us.. as for alot fo girls in the troupe and taught by the troupe we work on building confidence and spreading the word about the football club.

We expect that not everyone will like us.. because of corse you cannot please everyone but we work very hard to make sure we do not offend anyone and or innapropriately.

I hope that answered your questions and im sorry for the essay but comments are starting to get completly out of hand. If people want to ask questions than feel very welcome to PM me on here and i will gladly answer them but can we make a new rule that nasty comments are left off of threads please.. the girls do read them as you are aware and i dont want them to have to hear them, they work really hard and its a real blow to them to hear these things so please send them to me.

Top post, Gully's Girls are brilliant. Just keep up the good work. The fact that my 8 year old aspires to be a Gully's Girl says a lot I think. Children need role models and I think you are a pretty good one.
