When Brian Clough was manager a match was called off on Tuesday night at the old Walsall Stadium, Fellows Park, and rearranged for 48 hours later, and took place.

According to the arsegas, the pitch was in pretty bad condition and the match had zero chance of going ahead:

"Walsall wanted to try again tonight but Albion manager Micky Adams was understandably not keen on such an immediate return.

His players had a wasted journey to the West Midlands. The pitch at the Banks’s Stadium was, by all accounts, in a pretty poor state and a postponement was inevitable, in spite of the positive messages issued by Walsall towards the end of last week."
